The 2009/2010 Premier League Season promises to be one of the most competitive and exciting seasons we’ve ever had, after the spending-spree of Man City who have spent in excess of £90 million. In that same time United have spent only £17 million and Chelsea £20 million. Is money the answer to breaking into the top four?
Two games into the Premier League season and we have already had upsets and shocks. Tottenham, who this time last year were bottom of the league, are sitting proudly on top of the League for the first time in four years, a brilliant performance against Liverpool on the opening day of the season and merely days later a 5-1 thumping against relegation contenders Hull City with a superb hat-trick from Jermaine Defoe. Harry Redknapp has found the wining formula, could this be the year for Spurs..?
Defoe could be top scorer come the end of the season
Chelsea, a new manager, a new start? Well Chelsea have been changing managers like underwear in the last few seasons and had no luck so why is this any different? Yes they have a strong unchanged squad, with one major signing in Yury Zhirkov, and have started very well, they are the bookies favourites for the title and will no doubt be around those top 2 spots for most of the season, they are looking good value for their money, and i wouldn’t bet against them.
Liverpool are virtually unchanged from last season, but have lost a play-maker in Xavi Alonso who will be hard to replace. Glen Johnson has come in and this has given them much needed width on the right, however i think they are just not good enough for the top 4 as they rely too much on their star players, Torres and Gerrard and if they get injured Liverpool will struggle to keep up.
Man Utd, despite their loss to Burnley are good enough to win the league, one loss is hardly a disaster. Last season they lost twice to Liverpool, Arsenal and Fulham. Yet still won the League by 4 points. They always take their time to get into their stride, and will only get stronger as the season progresses. Man Utd will pull together and forget about the loss of Ronaldo, this is Rooney’s time to shine.
Finally Man City, having spent more than anyone else and still showing no signs of stopping could be a real force to be reckoned with. However there squad is unbalanced and still have a weak defence, with the arrival of Joleon Lescott Man City will be complete and ready to challenge for top 6. Adebayor, Tevez, Santa Cruz, Barry and Toure to fire City to the top?
Arsenal written of by many as the ones to fall out the top 4 this season, will surprise
and finish 3rd, they had a great game against Everton, scoring 6. If they play with even half the ability of that game the Arsenal fans have nothing to worry about.
This is my predicted table…
4. Man City
8. Aston Villa
10. Wigan Athletic
11. West Ham
14. Stoke City
16. Hull City
17. Birmingham City
