Look up the word “indomitable” in the Oxford English dictionary and next to the definition you’ll probably see the smiling face of Lassana Diarra, such is his skill at overcoming setbacks that would wreck the career of many a professional footballer.
Indomitable: –adjective- that cannot be subdued or overcome, as persons, will, or courage; unconquerable: ie. The warrior was indomitable like Lass.
Things looked to be rosy for Lassana in 2005 when Chelsea signed him for £1 million, citing him as “the next Claude Makelele” but things never worked out for Diarra, …

THEO WALCOTT
Age – 20
Team - Arsenal
Nationality – English
International Caps – 8
PREMIER LEAGUE
After a relatively decent 2007/08 season, expectations at Arsenal were high for Theo Walcott in what many hoped would be his breakthrough season in 2008. The club clearly signalled the standards they expected Walcott to meet after assigning him former star Thierry Henry’s number 14 shirt.
However, it took Walcott until the 18th October before he opened his goalscoring account for the season in an impressive 3-1 victory over Everton. The win was much needed at the time as the club had suffered a …

As John Aloisi struck the ball into the top right corner of the net (perhaps the only useful thing he’s ever done in his career, if not his life), an almighty roar rose out of the now named ANZ stadium in Sydney, Australia. The joyful cheers of the commentators in the background filled the speakers of those watching on TV at home, as Aloisi sprinted down the sidelines, exposing an unnatural amount of body hair that a footballer this day and age should have, to both 75,000 fans and the Uruguayan team. …

When I chose Lionel Messi, I thought that the task would be easy and that I could finish it off quickly but then I realised that you can’t write an article, just about how amazing someone is. This gave me quite a problem as there is not much wrong with “Leo.” I came up with two ideas; he is small and he wears a mid-range football boot, the F30i. Neither of these helped me though. Firstly, I am very small so why would I write about him being small and his height clearly does …

Atletico Madrid’s retention of Sergio Aguero was seen as a priority by the Spanish club last summer, with Europe’s biggest spenders interested in signing the Argentine. And rightly so, as he later proved; his attacking prowess and partnership with Diego Forlan proving seminal to Atletico’s La Liga success. The 2008/09 season was Aguero’s third campaign in Spain since signing from Independiente for a club record fee, and many speculate it could prove his last.
Aguero and Forlan have struck a great partnership
Transfer Speculation
Sergio’s agent was at work long before the Atletico players returned for pre-season …

After an amazing performance on Wednesday June 24, 2009; The US Football (soccer) team finds itself in an unfamiliar position, the finals. No one, including me, could envision the US in this position. Now the question is can they do it again. The US has a history of winning one big match every several years. The 1950 win over England, and now the win over Spain. People seem to be forgetting there is one more match to be played. …

After losing both Tevez and Ronaldo this summer, Sir Alex must now focus on building his fourth (and last) great squad.
Certain Manchester United fans, who are still able to count their age without taking their shoes and socks off, may be a dash worried about how the summer has started. Popular surnames on the backs of replica jerseys will soon need replacing, and no longer will goals from two of United’s most impressive players over the last two seasons be recreated in gardens and parks every Sunday morning. Elder patrons …

David Villa is a very accomplished football player. In the Euro Cup he was the top goal scorer. He missed out in the final because he was injured during one of his training session with the national spanish team. Villa was very dissapointed that he missed out on a very important final for spain. He was still there to celebrate with his team mates and to collect the medal and was also there to support his team. Even though he was injured and could not play in the final. His …

The US mens national team turned in a stellar performance against Egypt in the Confederations cup. The US won against an Egypt team that was favored to win. With the win the US secures a spot in the semi finals against Spain. The problem is not very many people in the US knew about the victory.
In a country where baseball (in all its boringness) is considered a national pastime, the World Cup does not even register as a blip on the radar screen. In order to follow football, I grudgingly …

Almost from the moment he stepped off a private plane in Manchester, surveyed the notorious Mancunian weather and mistakenly called his new club Chelsea, Robinho’s Manchester City career has caused as much interest off the field as it has on it.
On the eve of his £32.5m move to Eastlands on transfer deadline day, Robinho claimed “I am only thinking of Chelsea and want to play there,” and that “the situation has not changed, I want to leave Real and play for Chelsea.”
Wave goodbye? Robinho salutes City fans
Twenty-four hours later, the …
