Stereotypes do not just exist within everyday society; they also exist within the beautiful game. This issue involves issues way beyond the idea of kicking a football but also takes into account the issue of national identity and even business acumen.
Many of the top nations in Europe have had their respective glory years, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and now its England’s turn. Despite this there seems to be an air of arrogance about the majority of football followers in England, that they now possess the ‘best league in the world’. I …

Everton’s 0-1 win at the DW stadium against Wigan extends their unbeaten run to 9 league games and provides them with their third consecutive league win. David Moyes’ side began the season riddled with injury and disappointingly fell to a 1-6 defeat against Arsenal, but with Arteta, Yakubu and Anichebe returning from injury the side are starting to pile up the points. Lescott’s messy transfer to Man City unsettled the players and may have attributed to their weak start in the Premier league.
However arguably the most important factor in Everton’s …

Some see the January transfer window as one of opportunity; however many of the transfers conducted this year have more than a hint of desperation about them. Some, like Robinho and McCarthy, have lingering ambitions to play in the World Cup. Some simply feel they merit more than their current predicament suggests. But January has also seen one of the most enigmatic players in recent times return to English football, Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Read Gudjohnsen’s honours list and it stands up to even the most decorated players in football; he has collected …

I would like to make it clear from the outset that I am a Manchester United fan, however, it has had no standing in my writing of this article.
It’s been no secret at all that over the years, Arsene Wenger has established himself the nickname of ‘the scrooge’ for his refusal to make big money signings.
However, the difference this season is with a new owner set to create a stir at Emirates, there seemed to be ‘pressure’ on Wenger (not least of all by the fans) to bring in some …

Craig Gardner has made the switch from Villa to Birmingham this week in a deal worth around £3m.
The 23 year-old makes the move from Villa Park after spending his whole career so far with Aston Villa and made 79 appearances in his time there. Gardner will be up against some fierce competition at St Andrews with Barry Ferguson and Lee Bowyer having a superb season under the guidance of Alex McLeish. He isn’t the only midfielder to arrive at St Andrews this summer with Spaniard Michel joining Birmingham earlier in …

First of all, apologies for the late player profile, this is just a one off and Premiership Player Profiles will return to Wednesday’s once again next week. The midweek’s Premiership Player Profile features Hull City’s George Boateng.
George Boateng is a midfielder currently attached to Premier League side Hull City.
Boateng has enjoyed a long spell in English football dating back to 1998, but it was in the Netherlands that the Ghana International first started his career.

Portsmouth v West Ham
This has to be a “six pointer” match tonight, as Pompey and West Ham go to battle at Fratton Park, as win for either side will give them hope, as they both try and force their way out of relegation danger. Portsmouth have a lot of complications off the field, as the team could well be forced out of the Premier League, if they don’t pay there worrying debts. On the field though, Portsmouth will enter this match with a confidence boost, as the side progressed into the next …

This is our 17th Premier League Player Profile; we are currently three blogs away from covering all Twenty Premier League sides. Today it’s Liverpool’s winger Yossi Benayoun…
Before Liverpool signed Benayoun for a fee of £5 million, the Israeli international was a huge hit, in the Israeli Premier League. Benayoun started out for Hapoel Be’er Sheva where he massed up fifteen goals in just 25 appearances. His blistering record caught the attention of one of Israel’s well known sides, Maccabi Haifa. Benayoun featured 130 times for the Greens, as he scored …

Mali scored four goals in the last 15 minutes to draw 4-4 and astonish the football world in their opening game against hosts Angola. Minnows Malawi made World Cup-bound Algeria look very ordinary by beating them 3-0 and sending shockwaves across North Africa. Then Gabon pulled off another extraordinary result: they sunk Africa’s top-ranked team 1-0. We thought we had seen it all.
The first two quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have already produced two massive upsets. Last night, hosts Angola were sent crashing out of the competition …

Ola Angola! 16 teams started the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Angola. Now only 8 remain after the completion of the group stage of the competition. The tightest of the groups was undoubtedly Group D which had Cameroon, Gabon, Zambia and Tunisia. It was an exciting day on Thursday as all the four teams had a chance of making the quarterfinals. Zambia, though, stole the limelight on a day they started at rock bottom before finishing group winners based on goal difference.
The Copper Bullets have been trying to …
