A few Arsenal fans on Twitter have admired the attitude and workrate of Gabriel Martinelli during the 3-0 league defeat to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side had gone into the game on the back of a 3-1 comeback win at West Ham United but they struggled to cope with the quality presented by the Cityzens.
Martinelli tested goalkeeper Ederson after just 30 seconds on the clock but that was the only shot on target for the Gunners, who barely provided a threat in the opposition box.
Despite this, some Gunners faithful have talked positively about the performance of Martinelli, who was consistent with his high pressing and helped Bukayo Saka on the left side of the defence after Sead Kolasinac’s early substitution following a knee injury.
As per whoscored, Martinelli managed two take-ons and three tackles during the entire 90 minutes and his display has been lauded by some of the club’s fans on Twitter after the game.
Martinelli joined as a relatively unknown from fourth tier Brazilian side Ituano during the summer and it was initially suggested that he could ply his trade for the Under 23s.
However, he was able to make a good impression under ex-boss Unai Emery in pre-season where he bagged himself a goal against Colorado and showed an exceptional workrate throughout.
Martinelli has contributed eight goals and two assists in his short Gunners career to date and the future looks bright for him, provided he stays grounded and works with a similar intensity on the field.
