Can the Premier League be shook up this season?
With this years Premier League season well under way it is very close at the top of the table with some surprises teams pushing for European places. There are the usual teams at the top with Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United making the top three. The next three places are made up of some suprises with the likes of West Ham, Leicester and Crystal Palace. These three teams have started the season in great form which shows on the league table. The next two teams are made up from two teams familiar with European football, Everton and Tottenham. Then Southampton sit in 9th place only three points of fourth place.
West Ham have started their season in electric form with 3 major scalps away from home already this season. Bilic’s men took all 9 points on the road against some of the biggest names in the Premier League with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City unable to topple the hammers. These three wins have been the primary factory in their current league standings. Defeats at home against Leicester and Bournemouth have set them back a bit. Over the past few seasons West Ham have been a top half of the table team starting to challenge and this year they seem to be better than any other year. Last year they secured Europa League football through the fair play table over the whole season. This year they will be hoping to secure Europe with a finish in the top 6 or 7.
Leicester have started their season on a high also winning five out of their eight Premier League games. Drawing three and only losing one game so far this season puts them in a promising position as it stands in the table. They will be hoping to carry on the form against Southampton away this weekend, a team that may well be challenging them come the end of the season. A win then will lift them six points clear of the south coast club. For this club it has been a great journey, only a couple of years ago they were an average team in the championship. Now they are in contention to be around the top six come the end of the season.
Crystal Palace have started well also. Alan Pardew’s side sit fourth in the table level on points with Leicester. Their run is slightly different, winning five games and losing three. They have looked a threatening side going forward this season but look vulnerable at the back, ultimately where they have been losing there games. With the likes of Bolasie, Puncheon and Zaha in their ranks it is hard for other sides to stop them when they are in this rich of form. Although this team looks very good going forward. It looks as if they need to find a plan b as eventually other teams will work out how to beat them by attacking their back four.
Lastly, Southampton have been a club that have just kept building over the past seven to eight years. From the foot of the English league now to the Premier League. It is hard to see Southampton stop building now given the ability of the players in their squad and academy. It looks as if they are just going to keep improving. It is a team that sells a lot of top players but always seems to find a way to keep the same form throughout the season. The start of the season didn’t start to well for the Saints but it seems they have found their feet again and they will be hoping to carry this on this weekend when they face Leicester.
