I’m ashamed. I’m ashamed because as much as I love football, homophobic attitudes within the game go unchecked, with authorities unconscionably reluctant to intervene. Sepp Blatter’s comment that gay fans travelling to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup “should refrain from any sexual activities” typifies how out of touch FIFA is, but the problems go deeper. Brighton and Hove Albion supporters are routinely abused by other fans because of their city’s large LGBT population, and the FA hasn’t moved a muscle to stop it.
This shouldn’t be an issue. Homophobia in …

Whilst researching for another article I made a point of watching both Match of the day and The Football League Show and just as I was making notes I happened to spot 20 Sheiks in the crowd.  In the modern game you would maybe expect that, but at London Road, home of Peterborough United??  Are The Posh about to get investment of the Saudi oil dollar?  Further investigation of the crowd revealed Bananaman in attendance with his friend the Hulk.  In other games Crawley Towns game had hundreds of Hartlepool …

Yes, It is a long and painful time being a supporter of Coventry City. Broken promises, transfer embargo’s and bank accounts frozen, you can only fell sorry for us! We have had 5 different men pick the team this year, in the names of; Thorn, Shaw, Robins, Carsley and now big Elvis.
Now we’ve been docked 10 points for going in to administration! Is this good or bad? In many ways this is a good sign for the sky blues, as now they now  know which league they will be playing in and now …

The past week has seen Wayne Rooney come under a lot of stick and led to many believing that he should be sold by Man United. Much of the stick has come under the claim that he isn’t “world class” and never will be.
Rooney shouldn’t leave United and he is wrongly being a labelled a scapegoat for their problems. The real problem at United is not Rooney. The past couple of years has seen Rooney switching from a number 9 type striker to a now number 10 creative player. Rooney …

This post was published here as well.
Right before every home match starts the FC Twente supporters sing the You’ll Never Walk Alone from Gerry & The Pacemakers. What the supporters mean to convey is that they will support their team no matter what; in good times and, perhaps especially, in bad times. The past weeks have shown that that was a lie. The vocal supporters of the FC Twente crowd, often referred to as ‘Vak-P‘, named after a stand in the previous stadium, are what one may describe as “fair …

Remember last season’s FA Cup? No, why would you?
It was a mundane affair that produced hardly any upsets and by the quarter final stage there was only one non-Premier League side left in the competition. Twelve months on there will be at least one semi-finalist from outside the top-flight.
So what’s changed? Well, admittedly the unseeded format of the competition means that certain years England’s footballing heavyweights can draw each other in the same round in which there may also be an all-League One clash. Portsmouth’s ascent to FA Cup glory …

Going to a live game makes you remember that indescribable feeling that a live game gives you. The increase of live televised games bought by the likes of Sky does allow many people the chance of seeing their team or just enjoying being a neutral. However travelling to a game, chatting football and watching your team live is the true essence of football. Every detail just makes the experience of the day better, the football conversations, the pre-game pie and chips and the atmosphere of a live stadium. The ease …

It’s not often a blog has a foreword. I just want to say that on the surface this might seem like it’s aimed at Boro Fans. It’s not. It’s for football fans, in particular those who don’t like the way in which owners are judged via bank balance first and foremost. This is a sad state of affairs and because I know about Middlesbrough, I’ve used Gibson has an example. I hope there are other owners out there that are greeted with the same adulation by their fans and people …

The all-inclusive format of the FA Cup means that football’s oldest surviving tournament has seen countless giant-killings in its history, as lower-ranked Davids slay the Goliaths above them. Non-league Hereford United’s victory over Newcastle in 1972, prompted by the now famous long-range effort from Ronnie Radford, is woven into the competition’s folklore, along with John Motson’s fevered reaction. More recently, Wrexham, who in 1991 had finished bottom of the football league, beat English champions Arsenal 2-1 the next season, and Third Division Shrewsbury defeated Everton in 2003. No team is …

After this week’s semi- final matches I think it’s fair to say we’ve pretty much seen it all. The good, the bad, the ugly and as a result a lot of positives are going to be lost in the murky mire of ‘that ball boy incident.’ The problem with this is that there are actually some inspirational things to take from this week, things that the media spotlight hovered upon before seeking out the ugly, unsavoury moments that tend to take up the column inches, moments that act as an …
