Coventry City 1-1 Brentford

6 April 2013 by

Well least we can say we watched a better performance than we got Easter Monday against Walsall! Wasn’t expecting any considering how good Brentford are so I’m happy with a point, overall a draw is a fair result I reckon. Just want this season over now and hopefully we can sort all the off field rubbish out during the summer. Steven Pressley made 4 changes to the embarrassing display we all witness at the Banks stadium. Steven Jennings, Richard Wood, Callum Wilson and on his debut academy player Ryan Haynes all coming in for Adam Barton, William Edjenguele, Callum Ball and the suspended Jordan Stewart.

Attendance: 10,642 (1,649 away) Great support by the away side.

Bookings-Fleck, Wilson, Dean, Craig, Forshaw, Saunders

The game started off with how I thought it would, with the away side dominating and pressuring Murphy’s area, which led to the first chance of the game, a cross on the right hand side sent Murphy to punch the ball away with Forrester racing in to try and header into an empty net. Coventry came into the game after with Jennings shooting low which was easy for Moore in the Brentford goal. City captain Baker also had his own chance as he raced into the area but horribly fired high over the bar. All the early pressure from the away side had changed into the hands of the home team with some frantic scrambles in the box, Christie cross flicked on with Moore making the save, then Wilson header cleared off the line, Jennings shot blocked then Wilson going down in the box which led to him being booked for diving. I couldn’t look at the next chance though; keeper Murphy came running out to get onto a long ball only for Donaldson to get there first and dink a shot towards goal, drastically going slow, thankfully it went past the post no inside it, big let off as Murphy was in no man’s land. The pressure didn’t stop there though as Douglas headed just wide from 6 yards out, should have put the ball in the net. Moussa then broke away for the hosts, only to shoot straight into Moore’s hands. Brentford would to be kicking themselves over their miss opportunities as Christie’s free kick was going towards Wood who was bundled over inside the box and giving referee Mr Mathieson no hesitations but to point to the spot, Baker then stepped up and sent Moore the wrong way, didn’t look like a penalty to me but I wasn’t complaining.

Second half came and there were just over 3 minutes in between the 2 goals if we aren’t counting the half time interval as the away side hit back straight away, Donaldson putting Wood on his arse then laying a ball into Forrester who simply tapped in the equaliser. Coventry came back with a long range effort from Fleck which looked like a comfortable save for Simon Moore but the shot bounced and smacked him in the face with one of his defenders mopping up which would have been an embarrassing mistake. Baker and Saunders had free kicks for both sides, both curling straight into Murphy and Moore’s hands. Prolific striker Donaldson then hit a volley towards goal which Murphy saved well, the big striker will have been kicking himself as coming into injury time he missed an absolute sitter, a ball was flicked onto him unmarked all he had to do was keep his composure but he fired over the bar, could of won the game for the Bees right at the death, thought he was offside but thankfully he missed anyway. That was it for the game, a grafted point, very happy with a point considering I expected us to lose. A fair result overall, both had miss rood opportunities. Bring on Crawley Saturday PUSB
