With the current drama going on at Coventry City no one was thinking who would we get in the next round of the Capital One Cup but instead who will be the next manager. With Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley in temporary charge for the Midlands derby vs Birmingham City everyone was expecting a one way sided game with the visitors in control.
It did start that way with Peter Lovenkrands scoring a header to send the 4000+ away fans mental. They soon nearly doubled their lead with a shot by Chris Burke from a Marlon King pullback hitting the bar. Coventry replied with a through ball to Cody McDonalds who put the ball past Colin Doyle and silencing the away fans.
The Sky Blues then took the lead when Carl Baker who was my man of the match skilled his way through the Birmingham left hand side and put a ball into the box which was cleared to Captian Kevin Kilbane who fired home with a thunderous shot.
Birmingham were given a lifeline when Johnathan Spector played a neat one two with Marlon King who then ran through the defence and left Joe Murphy helpless to save it. The second half had few chances and so the game went to extra time.
Coventry got the luck as a defensive mix up let Carl Baker slip away and fire the ball home to send the home support into a sudden roar and I nearly broke the chair in front of me! Birmingham never came back after that. Full time came and the first time this season there was not a boo in sight, could this give Richard Shaw a good chance for the City managers job?
