Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 Chesterfield – Review

13 September 2009 by
Football - Dagenham & Redbridge v Brentford Coca

Chesterfield needed a win in this game, and they knew they had  a chance of getting 1, but Dagenham & Redbridge are never an easy side to beat. Paul Benson, Tony Roberts and Will Antwi, you may never of heard of them, but in League 2 they are 3 players who are dangerous every single game.

The spireites got off to the worst possible start, losing the ball a few seconds after kicking off, and from that Dagenham went upfield and Josh Scott hit the post. After a spell of end-to-end football Dagenham took the lead, Will Antwi leaping high and heading the ball past Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal. In the last 10 minutes of the half it became very heated with 3 players getting yellow cards, Will Antwi, Drew Talbot and Robert Page.

After the half-time against the run of play the Dagger’s extended their lead, Paul Benson took adavantage of Kevin Austin’s week header and blasted the ball in the top corner giving Tommy Lee no chance, a wonderful goal by the Daggers’ top scorer last season. That goal seemed to give Dagenham a boost and they just passed Chesterfield to death at times. Chesterfield did get a goal back late on though, Donal McDermott, on loan from Manchester City, beat Tony Roberts from 18 yards to pull it back to 2-1. That didn’t affect the game and Dagenham took the 3 points.

Chesterfield are falling down the table slowly and John Sheridan needs the pick the boys up from this defeat and just focus on getting their confidence back.

After the game Sheridan said “The only positive to take from this game is that we did infact control possesion for spells in the game, but apart from that we were useless, we need to get ready for saturday’s game against Macclesfield and feel that winning feeling again”
