Finn hopes to impress new manager

Hearts striker Juho Makela is hoping that a new manager will give him the fresh start he needs to finally break into the Hearts first team. The Finn is currently on loan at HJK Helsinki, the club Hearts signed the player from in January 2007 for £500,000. However the three month loan deal is due to end soon.

“I hope this will be a fresh start. I have been trying for two years to establish myself and couldn’t do it for many reasons,” said the player. “When the new manager comes, a new season starts and it’s a fresh beginning for everyone. I’m looking forward to that.

“I have been reading about what is going on at Hearts as well as calling some friends to find out what is happening in Edinburgh. So far, a new manager hasn’t come but I’m very interested to see what happens. I hope an appointment will be made quickly.”

Makela had an impressive scoring record in his time in Helsinki, scoring 32 goals in just 27 appearances. Since Makela joined Hearts he has scored 5 goals in 14 matches without ever having an extended run in the first team. Most of these appearances have come either as a substitute or in cup ties against lower league opposition.

He has enjoyed two loans spells since joining Hearts, the first of these for Swiss side FC Thun for the second half of the 2006/0 season. He scored 3 goals in 6 starts and came on 8 times as a substitute. Since returning on-loan to his homeland, Makela has scored 9 times in 14 matches, helping HJK into third place in the league.

Makela will join up with the rest of the Hearts sqad when they begin their pre-season tour of Gemrmany towards the end of the month.
