La Liga Midweek Report Key Matches – Barcelona or Real Madrid?

On Tuesday 3rd Placed Atletico Madrid claimed a solid 2-0 Win against Real Sociedad thanks to Goals on 3 and 10 Minutes with First coming when Koke’s inswinging Corner from the left was headed in to his own net at the near post by Defender Mikel Gonzalez and the Second came from Koke’s 20 Yard Shot was parried there was Antoine Griezmann to tap home the Second and it was generally comfortable from there for Atletico.

Sevilla could have a say on this Season Title Race with Barcelona and Real Madrid to play at Home, with Barcelona coming this Saturday and Sevilla’s Good Form continues as they keep up the pressure on Valencia for the 4th Champions League Sport after a 2-1 Win away to Levante with the Opening Goal coming on 10 Minutes when a good move was finished by Kevin Gamerio who shot from just inside the box on the right hand side got his shot away early across the Keeper and it the left post and went in and the Second came on 37 Minutes when Gamerio just inside the box on the left picked out Jose Anotino Reyes and slotted it in at the far post to double the lead for Sevilla, then Sevilla could have had a third when Nico Pareja’s Free Kick was tipped onto the crossbar by Goalkeeper Diego Marino  but Levante did put Sevilla under pressure second half forcing a few very good saves from Sergio Rico with efforts from just outside the box but Levante did pull one back, when Ruben Garcia’s cross from the right was headed in off the right post by Uche but Sevilla held on for a 5th straight Win.

On Wednesday it was the Top 2 in action first it was Barcelona playing at Home to Almeria and they clamied a very comfortable 4-0 Win with the opening Goal coming on 33 Mins when Lionel Messi curled a shot from a tight angle just inside the box from the right left footed into the far left hand bottom corner a sublime Goal to open the scoring, the Second came on 55 Minutes from Luis Suarez with a shot left footed into the left hand top corner to put Barca in cruise control, the Third on 75 Minutes came from Xavi Corner from the right and there was Marc Bartra and all people to head in and the Fourth in the 3rd Minute of stoppage time when from a good move Pedro chipped the ball across the Keeper who was off his line to Suarez who tapped in his Second Barca remain 4 Points clear at the Top of the League.

Real Madrid played later in what was at times a testing Match away to Rayo Vallecano and in the First Half it was Rayo who had more possession and were putting good pressure in Midfield with Iker Casillas making a couple of very good saves but it was a different game from Real second half who started to string it together and with a more attacking mindset started to create chances and should have had the chance to take the lead from a Penalty when Cristiano Ronaldo cut inside the Defender who slid in for a tackle and caught Ronaldo but the Ref amazingly booked Ronaldo for diving and Real had a couple more booked as frustration was starting to show from Real but relief on 68 Minutes when Dani Carvajal made a good run on the right hand side and he chipped the ball into the centre of the box when who else then Ronaldo to score with a diving Header to give Real the lead and the Second to clinch it came on 73 Minutes when James Rodriguez scored with a low shot left footed from just on the edge of the area into the left hand bottom corner Real keep up the pressure at the Top of the Table. Final Score: Real Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

On Thursday Villarreal were in action at home to Espanyol with Villarreal looking good to qualify for the Europa League Next Season but Espanyol extended Villarreal’s winless run to 6 games with a 3-0 Scoreline and the scoring was opened on 25 Minutes when a Free Kick from the left hand side from Real Madrid Loanee Lucas Vazquez saw Javi Lopez’s misguided Header rebound in off Felipe Caicedo, the Second came 68 Minutes when Caicedo turned a Defender in the Box and shot left footed which beat the Keeper at the near post and the Third on 79 Minutes when a good move down the left hand side saw a centred ball parried by the Goalkeeper and there was Victor Sanchez to score.

Valencia travelled to Athletic Bilbao and were looking for the Points to maintain a place in the Top 4 in an attempt to get Champions League Football Next Season and were looking good for 3 Points when on 61 Minutes Rodrigo flicked the ball into the right hand bottom corner and Rodrigo had a few more chances to finish it but it remained 1-0 and that would prove costly. Nicolas Otamendi was Sent Off after a high footed challenge and then Athletic Bilbao got a last Minute Goal to get a Point when Aduriz got in behind when he got onto a chipped pass he centred it and hit the post but Aduriz was there to tap in and the Former Valencia Player got Bilbao a Point Final Score 1-1.
