Livingston enquire about Basso

According to an article in today’s Edinburgh Evening News, Livingston has enquired about the availability of French Goalkeeper Anthony Basso, after he was left out in the cold by Hearts. The 29-year-old was left out of the twenty-five man squad that travelled to their pre-season camp in Germany.

Tomasso Angelini, a director at Livingston, is also Basso’s agent and it is preferred the Almondvale side would prefer to sign the goalkeeper on loan.

Right from the off Basso looked like he was prone to major errors. On his debut away to St. Mirren, a game Hearts won 3-1, he looked uncomfortable coming to gather crosses. He has managed only eight appearances so far for Hearts and one of these was an outstanding display in a 2-0 League Cup win at Celtic Park.

Against the same side, this time at Tynecastle with the score at 0-0, he failed to collect a tame free-kick from Paul Hartley with fifteen minutes remaining. Although Hearts went on to equalise in the last minute through a Velicka penalty, Basso’s mistake was the moment that he will most likely be remembered by, with regards to the Hearts support.

The Frenchman has one year left on his contract, believed to be around £2,000. If he doesn’t managed to find himself a transfer or a loan away from Tynecastle this season it is likely he will be left in the reserves for the season before being allowed to leave for free next summer.

Either that or Hearts will just cancel his contract.

Can’t be very good if he does that to his own players! Better to catch the opposition like that.
