Luis Alberto Suarez: Liverpool’s Number 7

9 March 2011 by

Just a little piece about Mr Suarez

Suarez

As you all know but if you don’t Luis Alberto Suarez is Liverpool’s number 7. The historic number 7 shirt, was previously worn by one of the most famous man in Liverpool’s history and is the current manager, Kenny Dalglish.

Luis Suarez signed for Liverpool FC on the 28th January 2011 for a fee around £23 million. The fee was accepted by Ajax and the next day he flew over to Liverpool from Amsterdam for his medical and signed a five and a-half year deal which will see him stay at the reds until 2016. He became the club’s record signing for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes until the arrival of Andy Carroll from Newcastle United.

Suarez made his Liverpool debut on the 2nd February against Stoke City at Anfield, coming off the bench in the 63rd minute to score Liverpool’s second goal in front of the Kop as they won 2–0.

Suarez started his first game for Liverpool against Wigan Athletic on 12th February 2011, he gained the LFC.TV MOTM award for his performance. On the 20th February 2011, Suarez travelled back to the Amsterdam Arena for an emotional farewell to the AFC Ajax players and their supporters. Suarez stated that Ajax would always be in his heart and was given a 10 minute standing ovation from the fans who then sang the Liverpool anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

In his next game, Suarez assisted Glen Johnson with a goal to pull one back after going 2–0 down against West Ham United, however Liverpool went on to lose the match 3–1. Suarez assisted two of Dirk Kuyt’s three goals as Liverpool beat Manchester United 3–1 on 6 March 2011. The skill shown by Suarez in all four of the matches Suarez has featured in has not gone unmissed, the excellent start to his Liverpool career with a debut goal around the Stoke keeper, the lovely dribble and the unfortunate save by the wood work against Wigan in which he later hit the bar from a free-kick, the once again lovely dribble to gain an assist for Glen Johnson’s consolation goal against West Ham and finally the most prolific that we have got to see Suarez was against Manchester United in which he set Dirk Kuyt up for the first goal were he absolutely ripped the Manchester United defence, the fantastic free-kick which caused Van Der Sar to parry the ball into Kuyt area once again and finally the cross which Nani headed back towards goal to set Kuyt up for his second.
