Manchester City’s Vincent: You would love to be in his Kompany

Vincent Kompany Ji-Sung Park of Manchester United is tackled by Vincent Kompany of Manchester City during the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester City and Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on April 30, 2012 in Manchester, England.

According to Roberto Mancini Vincent Kompany is  ”  incredible. He has a fantastic mentality. His attitude has been excellent. Without doubt he has been one of our top players this year” .  Also Fomer Manchester City Manager Joe Royle even went as far as to say that Kompany ” Has been Manchester City’s best buy”.  With praises like that coming from two respectable figures, it is no wonder why Vincent Kompany is not only the captain of Manchester City but head and shoulders the best defender in the world at the moment better than Vidic, Thiago Silva and Gerard Pique.

Born in Ukkle , Belgium on april 10th 1986 Vincent Jean Mpoy Kompany(to give his full name) first started playing football professionally for Anderlecht in his home country of Belgium, amongst his achievements  Komany won the Belgian Golden shoe and also was part of the Anderlecht team that won the Belgian First Division in 2003/4 and 2005/6.  It was his performances for Andelecht (especially in the UEFA Champions league) that first alerted a host of Europe top clubs to his talents, however on june 6th 2009 Hamburg announced the signing of Kompany for a fee of 10 million euros.  During his two seasons at Hamburg injury hampened Kompany’s progress this mean’t that he was limited to only 29 appearances and one goal for the club, however Kompany did win the UEFA Intertoto cup in 2007.

However good news was on the way, on August 22nd 2008  Kompany was transferred to Manchester City, in a deal believed to be worth around £6 million pounds to date Kompany has made 127 appearances scoring six goals. Under Roberto Mancini kompany has established himself as a regular starter and one of the first names on the team sheet, since his arrival in 2008 he has steadily been improving and last season was the season where he was hands down the best defender in the league, he played 31 matches scoring one goal which proved to be his most important goal for City so far.   Why is Vincent Kompany currently the best defender in the world? well he is commanding in the air and on the ground, his timing is excellent, he is rarely caught out of position, his reading of the game is second to none, he is calm and composed in possession, he is consistant and going forward he is a threat so to round up Kompany posseses all of the attributes needed to be a world class defender in today’s modern game.

Furthurmore Kompany also studies part-time at Manchester Business School, and anyone who has heard him speak will immediately notice how well-spoken and dignified he is, also  Kompany is a official FIFA ambassador for registered Charity SOS Childrens Villages, additionally being of congolese heritage Kompany has invested and is currently engaging in projects which aim to provide an education and safe living conditions for children who are experiencing poverty.  its not only for club that Kompany is well established, he is also a regular in the Belgium National team having represented Belgium from U16 level right the way to  Senior level where he currently has made 47 appearances and  2 goals.

So why wouldn’t you want to be in the Kompany of the best defender in the world currently? apart from being an excellent footballer who can play as a defender/defensive midfielder, Vincent Kompany is also educated, well – spoken, carries himself in a humble and dignified manner, respected by his fellow professionals and is hungry for more success. I for one certainly am a big fan of his and i look forward to seeing Vincent Kompany winning many more trophies for Man City and cementing his place in City Folklore.
