Mourinho set to bring in Xabi Alonso to Stamford Bridge?

20 June 2013 by

New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may be be signing Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso and he looks to rebuff the midfield ahead of the 2013/14 season. The Premier League fixtures were released over night and Chelsea play Hull City at home before playing champions Manchester United at Old Trafford in the second round.

Xabi Alonso is a world class central midfielder with unbeatable passing, vision and positioning skills and he was unfortunate to miss out on the Spain squad for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup currently being played right now. Mourinho wants to add more midfield creativity and prowess as players including John Obi Mikel and Yossi Benayoun may be departing for more game time.

When Mourinho first signed for Chelsea in 2004 he brought in several of his FC Porto players including Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira and he may be doing the same here where he is linked with bringing the Spanish veteran. Mourinho has such a unique quality and that he has the ability to create bonds with players so he can properly get his message across to the player which is why he likes bringing in familiar faces to the squad he manages.

Xabi Alonso still has seven months left on his contract and Chelsea may make a cut price bid for the midfielder. In my personal opinion I don’t expect Xabi Alonso to make a move to England as he has already established himself at the Madrid side as he is usually played ahead of Sami Khedira, Kaka and Luka Modric.

Chelsea are the favourites to win the league since Mourinho’s arrival and they may also sign want away United striker Wayne Rooney in the coming weeks as they look to find an out and out striker. If Rooney does not sign for Chelsea, Mourinho has said that he would like Edinson Cavani or Stevan Jovetic at the club.
