Notts County 0-2 Stoke City

31 July 2008 by

Mamady Sidibe’s brace fired Stoke to a third win of pre-season on Tuesday night at Notts County’s Meadow Lane. Despite the Potters being somewhat on the back foot for the opening spell, the Malian target man gave Stoke the lead on fifteen minutes, with a powerful header from six yards from Glenn Whelan’s cross.

Sidibe doubled the advantage for Pulis’ men just six minutes later driving home after a trademark Delap long throw caused havoc in the Magpies’ box, with ‘keeper Kevin Pilkington fumbling the ball straight to the striker’s feet.

This was how, the score stayed, largely due to the heroics of Steve Simonsen in the Stoke goal, who was doubtless looking to impress in an attempt to win some first team action in the forthcoming season.

  Stoke team:

                  Simonsen

Griffin  Diao  Shawcross  Pugh

Delap  Whelan  Pulis  Cresswell

              Sidibe  Kitson

Subs:  Dickinson for Diao (46), Parkin for Kitson (46), Pericard for Sidibe (46), Shotton for Whelan (64), De Laet for Cresswell (71).

Attendance: 2425 (530 Stokies)
