Portsmouth

A potential Valentines’ Day Massacre?

It just had to happen, didn’t it?

After successfully beating Sunderland at the weekend, booking their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup, Pompey have been drawn away to Southampton.

With the season already full of dramatic episodes, the club can add one more fiery event to the list.

Leading up to the draw, fans speculated how fate would put the two sides together, the only debate being whether it would be a home or away fixture.

The last time the two sides met was in early 2005, with Pompey emphatically winning 4-1 against a dejected, struggling Southampton side.

However, that was at home. Pompey’s record against Southampton away hasn’t been the best in recent years.

Fans will be hoping Avram Grant’s side is strong enough to cope against a revitalised Southampton side, who narrowly avoided liquidation last year.

The match is set to take place on the weekend of 13/14 February and is likely to be a noon kick-off, with the amount of police on guard set to heavily increase.

5,000 tickets are set to be made available for Portsmouth fans, yet it remains to be seen how they will be allocated.
