PSG Slip Up On Twitter

17 December 2012 by

As he begins to enter the autumn of his career, Ashley Cole may be forgiven for weighing up his options. Does he stay at Chelsea, where his contract is due to run out soon, or could he move elsewhere? Despite the fact the England left-back’s on the wrong side of 30, he’s still one of the best players in his position in world football, and there are a number of suitors for his signature, one of them being big-spending Paris Saint-Germain. PSG, managed by former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, have money to burn and a new challenge.

Recently, PSG posted on their official Twitter page that they were due to sign Cole, but quickly deleted that Tweet. To some, that may have been a slip, but the fact that they momentarily mentioned via social media that they were interested in adding Cole to their ranks of seasoned superstars like Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Cole has been linked with many top clubs around the world including Real Madrid, but moving to Paris may be risky.

PSG may be favourites for the Ligue 1 title with Ladbrokes Sport, but their capability to challenge for the Champions League is limited. For every big name like Ibrahimovic, Javier Pastore and Thiago Silva, there’s a mid-table journeyman who would struggle at the very highest level, and it may take more big name arrivals in order to render PSG fit to compete for Europe’s top prize. There’s no question that PSG have the resources to attract Cole, but their social media slip-up could cost them, leaving the Chelsea star to ponder his next move.
