Round-Up

12 March 2011 by

(First of all I am really sorry for neglecting this blog for the last two weeks or so, since the Chievo match. I have been writing for Forza Italian Football a lot more, but I’m back, so lets get cracking.)

We have had two huge matches in a week, in Napoli and Juventus, and we have been knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Tottenham;

Napoli

This was the big one, Napoli were second, and getting more confident as the weeks went on. Going into the game at the Giuseppe Meazza the Italian press kept talking about the relationship between Pato and Ibrahimovic, the bottom line was they don’t like each other. On the day however, Milan just dominated and won three-nil. A controversial penalty buried by Ibrahimovic, Boateng showed strength to take his goal and Pato scored and absolute beauty from outside the box. Without Lavezzi Napoli had no energy up-front, Cavani and Mascara were useless. We stayed top, again, Inter now closing in.

Juventus

I Bianconeri were closer to the relegation zone then they were to us, in eight. It was a tight game with few chances, but the only goal came from an unexpected source. With twenty minutes to go, Buffon let Gattuso’s weak shot go straight under him. A howler from one of the best in the business. That’s how it stayed and Delneri’s men really need to step up their game to challenge with the likes of  Milan. We stayed top, again, Inter still climbing though.

Tottenham

I swear I’m not biased, but Milan were the better team on the night. Ibrahimovic failed to provide any attacking threat, one of his poorest displays. The only real chance of the game fell to Robinho, Gallas cleared it off the line however. The English press praised Redknapp for his tactics, but if they play like that against better opposition they will be following us out the door.

I’m sorry but this is as in depth I’ll get, considering these matches happened a while back. The next challenge is bottom of the table Bari, but we are all looking foward to the derby in April.
