Simon Gets Top Prize at the Gills

simon-royce.jpgIn the end of season ceremony at Priestfield last night (Saturday 26/4/08), Simon Royce was voted Gillingham’s 2007/08 Player of the Year.

The Gills’ fans voted the former Charlton and Manchester City goalkeeper as the Gills’ best player this season, ahead of last year’s winner Andrew Crofts (who came third) and Simon King (who came second).

Royce was happy with his award but said he is fully focused on the game against Leeds: “I’m very pleased with the award and I’m delighted that I’ve got a personal accolade but obviously the most important thing to be thinking about is the game coming up against Leeds.”

The Goal of the Season award went to Andrew Crofts for his volley at Brighton in early March 2008, while Simon King scored a double, taking both the Away Player of the Year award as voted by the fans, and the Players’ Player of the Year award.
