Surprise-package Malawi stunned Group A after a convincing win over Rabah Saadane’s Algeria. In a near-deserted stadium, Algeria failed to perform on the big stage and are set to continue a very poor overall record for a team that boasts some really good players. Rabah Saadane has named his 23 man squad for the African Nations Cup in January which includes 4 British-based players and 10 foreign-based players. However, there is no place for Hull City striker Kamel Ghilas in the 23 man squad or the 4 reserve places. Saadane’s Algerian side will take on Angola, Mali and Malawi in their group matches. They will be based in Southern France until January 7th when they will arrive in the Angolan capital for the start of their tournament on January 11th.

Algeria qualified for the African Cup of Nations 2010 in a group that saw one of the most thrilling and tense play-off matches in African Football history.
