Peterborough United Football Blog

With the help of a little bit of luck and some solid defending Peterborough United finally bagged their first clean sheet of the season and ended a run of five games without a win.
This was far from an easy game though, despite being bottom of the table Coventry were fighting right from the start and will be cursing their luck after a blatant penalty decision went against them.
This was a game that Posh had to win. Coventry were rock bottom of the Championship and without a win since October. Following …

Over the past few seasons Coventry City have found themselves in trouble.  In 2008 the side narrowly escaped relegation to League One by beating Charlton on the last day of the season, since then they have always found themselves close to the drop zone and this season things have got even worse as the team prop up the Championship.
It not only on the pitch where things have gone wrong, behind the scenes board members have been coming and going like there no tomorrow fuelling rumours that the club is in …

There is some sort of unwritten rule in football that means players will always make an impact to a game when they are returning to their former club. Today it was Lee Tomlin’s turn to make a name for himself by rescuing a goal and a point for Posh as he made his return to his former stomping ground, the King Power stadium.
It’s fair to say that since making a move to London Road last summer Tomlin has had somewhat of a bumpy ride at Peterborough. Playing a pivotal part …

On 14 occasions this season Peterborough United have come from behind in a game to grab some points. However going 3-0 down was pushing their luck a little too far as Posh slumped to their second defeat in five days.
To be fair Posh only have themselves to blame for this one, there were just far too many mistakes but the game was an emotional rollercoaster.
The match had been hyped up as one to watch as both Posh and Barnsley are known for their passing game. Also both teams were glued on …

The last time these two teams met Posh were finally resigned to relegation from the Championship after a long and unsuccessful return to the second division of the football ladder.
This time around things are more positive for the boys in blue. Despite losing 3-2 to Reading in midweek Posh still sit securely in the middle to the table with 24 points.
Barnsley also have 24 points and will have added confidence going into the game after beating fellow Yorkshire rivals Leeds 2-1 last weekend.
I caught up with Barnsley fan ‘Wilky’ who …

Peterborough just love to do things the hard way. After again falling behind in the game it was Paul Taylor, the man who never gives up, who rescued a point producing a superb volley nine minutes before the end of time.
These two teams had already met this season back in August when Middlesbrough easily walked away 2-0 winners in the Carling Cup second round. That night Tony Mowbray’s side put in a solid performance prompting Darren Ferguson to make a few tactical changes to his side this time round with …

After a week of media speculation about an exit from London Road in January captain Grant McCann showed he hasn’t let it affect his performance by rescuing a point with yet another spectacular freekick and stunning the Birmingham support in the process.
Birmingham had only conceded one goal in the league at St Andrews all season so were rightly confident going into the game however Peterborough were on a high again after ending a run of 3 straight defeats and coming from 2-0 down to beat Derby 3-2 just before the …

Life as a Peterborough United supporter is certainly not boring. Last season London Road was named the most entertaining ground in the England after witnessing an incredible 111 goals in the league and despite making a step up in the divisions this season entertainment value at The Posh has certainly not faded.
Posh were three games without a victory however after only just losing to Championship leaders Southampton 2-1 in the week despite having just ten men confidence at London Road was definitely high.
Media coverage on this game was buzzing after …

London Road is still seeing bags full of goals as Posh stunned everyone including themselves to claim their biggest ever result at Championship level
The East Anglian derby is always an entertaining one and this game proved to be no different. Posh have a good record against Ipswich when they visit London Road with the boys in blue winning 3-1 to claim one of their few wins in The Championship last time the two sides met. Although I doubt anyone would have predicted such an outstanding result at the start of the …

On Saturday evening, two teams that play in blue and white will go head-to-head in front of the Sky cameras at Portman Road. Surviving in the Championship is all that matters to Peterborough United, having lost top-scorer Craig Mackail-Smith to Brighton. Ipswich Town however, will aim for a top-flight return, as their fans are currently smarting …
