Yes, I am English, and as ever I have my expectations for next summer’s European Championships. England will feel content with their group, but they must realize – It will not be easy. In their recent games England has broken down what has been a pretty consistently selected England squad, but no offence, hardly a successful one.
However, the England of current matches has shown a lot more heart and desire to get the results, even if it does restrict them to very defensive tactics. I feel, if England were to play with the heart that they showed in last month’s 1-0 win over the World Champions, all be it not at their best, I could see, dare i say this, England having a successful tournament. If England were to head to Poland next summer with the likes of Welbeck, Rodwell, Jones, Smalling, etc, i feel they’d stand a far better chance of succeeding, than without them, purely from the passion that these young players have, and seem to show on the field. On the other hand, it would not be wise to field a team without the experience to balance it, for example, Scott Parker who has been in my opinion England’s best player this year. As the inexperience at the top level could get to them especially if they progress into the latter stages.
I do however feel England will do better than in previous years, but sadly, the draw for the latter stages doesn’t favour them. I’m predicting a smooth qualification from the group stages, with wins over Ukraine, and Sweden, however I feel well manage only a draw against a very young, and upcoming French side. First place in our group is vital, as finishing second, would almost certainly give us a rematch against the Spanish, which is effectively game over. However I feel we will scrape through our group as group winners, and then go on to beat, what you would imagine to be either Croatia or Italy. But, after that it looks as though well be put up against the winners of group B, which my money would be on Germany – The End.
In conclusion, England to reach the semis, and Germany to win it. But then again, what do I know?
