Fabio Coentrao – A frustrating year for the 26 year old former Benfica man, playing second fiddle to Marcelo for club and having a disappointing World Cup for country. However, he is still an intelligent player, who is technically skilful and tactically versatile. Young enough to still …

New owners usually means a change of fortunes. In the case of Manchester City, it has meant a realistic shot at the Premier League title, while clubs such as Chester City & Wimbledon ‘lost’ their clubs as a result. When Roma got taken over it was a surprise as they were the first Italian club to be owned by a non Italian. This move was oppossed by many fans due to the nationality of the American Thomas DiBenedetto but the one thing he would bring to the club is stability …

Police clashed with Roma fans on Thursday last after a protest for Claudio Ranieri to resign as manager. After four straight defeats. Ranieri desperately needed a convincing result at Genoa to keep his job. He got a dream start, three-nil up at half time, but it didn’t last. Four goals were leaked, game over. At that stage Ranieri had no choice, before he was sacked, he resigned. Leaving Roma in eighth place, nine points away for the Champions League.
Almost immediately, thirty-six year old,  Vincenzo Montella was appointed as caretaker. Many …

Football website Caught Offside has linked Manchester United with Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi and claims that the Red Devils will make a bid for his services in January when the winter transfer window opens. Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be generally reluctant to conclude any January business, but if the right deal comes along to bring the Italian to Old Trafford and strengthen the club’s midfield, the website believes United would take it. One key issues would be De Rossi’s inability to play any part of the second …

AS Roma 2 Bologna 1
Could AS Roma finally put some smiles on the tifosi in the Curva Sud of the ever decreasing fortress of the Stadio Olimpico?
The answer, yes but not without a scare.
AS Roma went into this game without Rodrigo Taddei, Daniele De Rossi and Marco Cassetti, who were all suspended.  Furthermore, the Gialorossi were still without ‘el captiano’, Francesco Totti and on loan defender Nicolas Burdisso.
It was Emiliano Viviano who was called into early action with saves from John Arne Riise and Mirko Vucinic.  Jeremy Menez wasted a good …

Udinese 2 AS Roma 1
Both teams went into this game on equal points, and in disappointing positions, in the wrong half of the table for two clubs that achieved recent success in terms of Serie A.
Udinese started with their familiar trident formation and attacking nature with Italian international Antonio Di Natale spearheading the Zebrette.  Raineri decided to give Mirko Vucinic another chance to get his season going with successive starts with Simone Perrotta playing just behind the Montenegrin.
AS Roma had the first chance with a neat cutback from Vucinic to last seasons revelation, …

AS Roma 0 Livorno 1
Well well well, Francesco Tavano did prove to be the difference between the sides at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.  A crisp shot from the corner of the box was the only goal in a dissapointing result for the Giallorossi.  It was the Spaniards first goal of the season, and a very sweet one, as he has been ridiculed for his troubled spell at the capital club.
Roma threatened throughout the match, but Mirko Vucinic still doesnt have his shooting boots on with two glaring misses despite some …

Week 9 in Serie A and this could be a chance for AS Roma to get their season up and running against Livorno, the only team without a win in Serie A this season having only given their fans two goals to cheer this season.
Not surprisingly, Livorno decided midweek that former player, Gennaro Ruotolo had overstayed his welcome at the Tuscan club, this time as head coach.  Former Udinese and Perugia boss Serse Cosmi is the man that Presdient Aldo Spinelli thinks has the ability to turn around Livorno’s early season problems.  This is …

According to latest reports, the Giallorossi have tightened their grip on Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva. Sportitalia has revealed that the Roman club have advanced a proposal to secure the services of the 31-year-old.
Roma’s offer, said to be in the range of €2.5m, is allegedly being taken into serious consideration by the Gunners. Silva’s deal at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of the 2008/2009 season.
Roma are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next term and have already acquired Norwegian left-back John Arne Riise from …
