A late Asamoah Gyan penalty gave Ghana a perfect start to their World Cup campaign at the expense of a disappointing Serbia. Gyan coolly slotted home in the 85th minute after an inexplicable hand ball from Serbian substitute Zdravko Kuzmanovic. The result was richly deserved by the Ghanaians, whose pace and direct approach never allowed the Serbians to settle and leaves Serbia a mountain to climb to reach the knock-out stages.
The match pitted two Serbian coaches together, and it was the Ghana coach Milovan Rajevec who won the tactical battle …

Serbia kick off their 2010 World Cup campaign on Sunday in Group D against Ghana. Whilst Group G has been tagged the official ‘group of death’, Group D could be the most tightly contested group. Arguably none of the 8 groups contain 4 teams that are so evenly matched, and to predict the two teams that will move to the last 16 is difficult. A win on Sunday will put Serbia in the box seat to qualify.

On paper the strength of the Serbia squad justifies their standing as genuine dark horses this summer.  At their helm stands Radomir Antić, who proudly leads Serbia to the World Finals for the first time as an independent nation. At his disposal Antic has an array of talent, many are house hold names accross Europe, but have a reputation for underachieving on the international stage.
If Serbia are to make an impact in South Africa they will need to ensure that they can continue their recent amazing defensive record. Whilst Nemanja Vidić and …

Much of Serbia’s recent success has been built on a miserly defence that has conceded just 20 goals in the last 3 qualifying campaigns and two of the team’s English based players Nemanja Vidic and Branislav Ivanovic have played a key role.

Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United managed to pip Fiorentina to Vidic’s signature in January 2006 in order for him to compete with John O’Shea, Mikael Silvestre and Wes Brown to partner Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the United defence. In that first season Vidic made 11 appearances, including one as a late substitute in the 2006 Carling Cup final success over Wigan Athletic. The following season …

Serbians have every right to celebrate the nationistic pride that comes with their footballing teams’ success in reaching the World Cup finals. The break-up of the former Republic of Yugoslavia resulted in one of the bloodiest civil wars in recent history having a profound effect on every Serbian.
As Yugoslavia broke up into smaller states in the early 1990’s, Serbia & Montenegro made up the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY). Perversely, the biggest impact made by FRY on international football was their disqualification from the 1992 European Championships Finals due to …

European nation Serbia have revealed their new World Cup home shirt just over a month before they travel to South Africa to take part in the tournament.
The team surprisingly qualified with ease for the World Cup in a group that contained 1998 champions France. Even though they only picked up 1 point against the French in two meetings, other results saw the Serbians top the group fairly comfortably. They have been drawn in a fairly difficult World Cup group with Germany, Australia and Ghana the opposition.

After comfortably beating 1998 World Champions France to automatic qualification from the European section, Serbia will be hopeful of making a big impact at their first World Cup as an independent nation. The team had a disappointing 2006 World Cup campaign as Serbia and Montenegro with three defeats to Argentina, Holland and the Ivory Coast. Nevertheless, they have been placed in an easier, yet still competitive, group for the 2010 tournament with Germany, Australia and Ghana.
The Germans have a rich history in this competition. Although this German team is …

A goal after six minutes from Valencia giant Nikola Zigic brought South Korea’s 27 match unbeaten run to an abrupt end at Fulham’s Craven Cottage. The game kicked-off at the odd-time of 2.30pm and was played infront of pretty much an empty stadium with one of the highlights being the happy bunch of Koreans.
