Come 5pm on Saturday, Brian Laws will have been in charge 100 games in charge for Sheffield Wednesday.
He’s experienced many highs and lows – all that can be expected from the Owls, who can follow thirteen games unbeaten with six straight defeats – and now it’s game number 100 for the former Grimsby and Scunthorpe manager famous (or, rather, infamous) for throwing a plate of chicken wings at former Grimsby player Ivano Bonnetti. This Saturday, the opponents are South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers. If you look at the positions of …

The 23-year-old struck twice but the Owls crashed out
Sheffield Wednesday were knocked out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle last night following a penalty shootout defeat to local rivals Rotherham United.
Dutch winger, Etienne Esajas twice put Wednesday into the lead at Hillsborough.
The first came after just 14 minutes, a lovely angled drive into the bottom left hand corner of Andy Warrington’s goal. However, just 9 seconds later Alex Rhodes ran straight through the Wednesday back four to pass home a through ball from the ever present Pablo Mills.
Esajas’ …

Every week here on BlogsFC, I am going to write a match preview article called ‘bring them on’.
This Saturday sees Sheffield Wednesday kick off their new Coca-Cola Championship campaign by welcoming Burnley to Hillsborough.
Burnley, have seen the addition of Manchester United winger Chris Eagles this week for a fee believed to be in region of £1.75 million.

Newly named Sheffield Wednesday team captain Richard Wood believes it’s vital the Owls get off to a good start after last seasons poor start.
The Owls started last season with six losses from six but Wood believes this summers pre-season form has been impressive and that should stand them in good stead.
“It’s massively important that we get a good result against Burnley and our season can start on Saturday instead of six games time,” said Wood.
He added, “We played really well against Wigan and gave them a good game. If we …

S6 could soon be under new ownership

Geoff Sheard, the man leading the consortium which is trying to buy Sheffield Wednesday, claims that he could be in full control within days.
This  comes after supporters group Wednesdayite, agreed to sell their 10% claim in the club.
Sheard has also already agreed deals with Owls director Geoff Hulley, Keith Addy and ex-chairman Dave Allen who hold a 30% shareholding between them.
“This is a significant stage in the acquisition of the football club and hopefully in a couple of days we’ll have some significant news” …

Here we go again, a week before the start of a brand new campaign at Hillsborough and what can we expect?
Is this team that has been playing in blue and white stripes, that have won 4 out of 7 pre-season games, scoring 16 goals along the way, really the same club that narrowly avoided the drop last time around?
It’s a very strange predicament for Wednesday’s followers at this time. Whenever things go well on the pitch, the fans begin to question if they’re being too optimistic.
And with matters off the pitch …

Egyptian striker Zaki netted a last minute winner
Sheffield Wednesday wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a narrow defeat to Premier League Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough.
The Latics twice took the lead through ex-England international Emile Heskey and Titus Bramble but the hosts drawed level, firstly through Jermaine Johnson and then the impressive Deon Burton.
But Steve Bruce’s men grabbed an injury time winner, through Egyptian international Amr Zaki. A sight the S6 hopefuls hope not to be familar in the new campaign.
Owls manager Brian Laws sent out a strong eleven which included a …

Leon Clarke grabbed a brace at Gigg Lane
Sheffield Wednesday continued their winning ways this week with a convincing 4-1 win against MK Dons. This was then followed by a comfortable 2-0 victory at Gigg Lane on Saturday.
MK Dons were more of footballing side on Tuesday night and the Owls by-passed the Midlands outfit at stadiumMK with Burton and young left-winger Etienne Esaisas amongst the scorers.
Bury on Saturday were a team of more direct football, which it would seem Law’s men are also prepared for as they cruised to a comfortable …

Sheffield Wednesday striker, Akpo Sodje made his long anticipated return from injury last night in the Owls 4-1 victory at MK Dons.
The 27 year old, who suffered ligament damage in January, played for the first time in six months. He helped fellow strike partner Deon Burton to grab two goals as Wednesday cruised to victory against Roberto Di Matteo’s side.
Owls manager Brian Laws was delighted to see Sodje on the pitch again: “”To see Sodje back in the team is a …

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws, has stated that there has been no approach from Wolves for central defender, Mark Beevers.
The Midlands side are the latest of a number of clubs to be rumoured, to have interest in the defender.
The 19-year-old is already grabbing the attention of several clubs including Premier League outfit Liverpool.
Laws stated: “”All I can say is no-one has been in touch to make an offer, none at all, the rumours are just rumours.”
The youngster, who came through the Owls academy, …
