West Bromwich Albion Football Blog

This article is in response to recent events at the Hawthorns were West Bromwich Albion’s sponsors, Zoopla, want to dictate which players the club can pick by stating in the press that if Nicholas Anelka plays they will withdraw from their £3 million pound 2 year sponsorship.  They even want the club to sack him.
With sponsorship being the life blood of football from Sunday Football teams having their shirts bought by small local businesses and pubs to the likes of Arsenal, where their sponsors even pay to name the stadium, …

Confused. Flabbergasted. Puzzled. Baffled. These are only a few words that spring to mind when I heard rumours of Steve Clarke being on the verge of getting the axe. When I was at the Hawthorns for the game against Manchester City, I heard Albion fans question the manager’s ability to accumulate points this season and are also curious as to why he is making late or wrong substitutes from this perspective. There were quite a number of fans who claimed that if the Baggies didn’t manage to collect maximum points …

Chris Brunt- West Brom captain, deservedly so or not?
Brunt is well known in the football industry, most famously for his sensational left foot. He came to the Albion in August 2007 from Sheffield Wednesday, ahead of the upcoming Championship season and was soon well settled in and popular with the fans.
Many Albion fans have watched Brunt develop and got to know him as a player over his years at the Hawthorns, but with him now nearing the age of 30, is he past his best? In recent performances, the captain …

The childhood dream of most schoolboys is to become a professional footballer, it’s jumpers for goalposts and Sunday league football for most, with only a small percentage of players ever making a career out of football. However, English football clubs are investing more and more money into the local communities and youth/academy teams, to help bring in youngsters and mould them into strong and skillful players through training and experience.
Here is our list (in no particular order) of who we think are currently the top ten under 21’s in the …

So yet again another Premier League manager has lost his job after a some what humiliating defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion. The first manager casualty occurred when Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has his contract terminated that shocked the football world after 3-1 defeat at the Hawthorns. I believe that it was very harsh on Hughton who in my view, and many Magpie fans, did his job successfully.
The big one in terms of Albion fans happened to Mick McCarthy following a damaging rout at home with the final …

West Bromwich Albion experienced their best season in the Premier League last season under Steve Clarke. They only just missed out on breaking the 50 point mark due to a poor end to the season where their worst result came at Carrow Road, we lost 4-0. I think that game was our worst result and performance of the season, in a game where we were expecting to get the win.
Following that game came possibly our best result of the season which was a 5-5 draw with the champions. However, I …

With the deal having now been confirmed with Nicolas Anelka being pictured outside the Hawthorns with a West Bromwich Albion shirt it appears as though Steve Clarke is attempting to rebuild his strike force which has been left decimated by departures thus far this summer. With Romelu Lukaku returning to Chelsea after his hugely successful loan campaign with West Brom during which the Belgian registering seventeen League goals and Peter Odemwingie expected to be forced out of the club following his post-Christmas exile as a result of his desire to …

Well what is there to say about the Albion at the start of 2013. I wrote earlier this month about the great start we have achieved so far and it has not disappointed either. There are so many positives out of this month, I’m about as excited as a 5 year-old at Christmas. The return of Vicente; our FA Cup run; undefeated in the league this year; planning permission for a state-of-the-art academy; lost to Arsenal in a terrific game and, of course, we’ve FINALLY signed a target man, Leonardo Ulloa.
Ulloa …

Lethargic, laboured are some of the words rightly attributed to the home side’s wretched performance against Fulham. Tuesday’s defeat was the third suffered at home by the Baggies in a season where they have done very well at the Hawthorns. Steve Clarke will obviously be disappointed at dropping points at home but more than that it will be the manner in which his team lost that will worry him the most.
Man of the match Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring on the 39th minute netting Fulham’s first and deserved goal. For …

West Brom’s Veteran midfielder is desperatre to make amends for the loss against Stoke on Saturday.

Gera says the West Bromwich squad are prepared to reinstate their dominance in the Premier League after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Stoke at The Hawthorns.

Dean Whitehead’s 75th minute goal was enough to snatch three points for the Potters as the Baggies confirmed their second-successive loss since beating Sunderland 4-2. Albion were beaten by Manchester City and Newcastle before progressing on a four-game winning streak which came to an ugly end at Swansea on Wednesday. And the …
