The January transfer window was needless to say quite dull, no real major signings, few shipped out on loan and one or two shock moves, but for the Chinese Super League, it was a transfer window never to forget. It may be the transfer window that the Chinese national league stamped its mark on the game with some serious signings, and with big names comes big money. Of course the Chinese economy Is growing rapidly and it seems they’re investing into markets where the people will most certainly put their …

Basketball and Football, two similar yet entirely different games. Same basic rules which are to score as many as you can before the end of the game, but the difference is so big you sometimes forget that they are so similar. With the obvious fact of Basketball is a ball being dribbled with hands and Football is a ball being dribbled with feet, there are other rules which make the sports almost opposites in a way. Basketball could improve the future of English football.
I believe this as if you look at …

Sunday 14th December – Manchester United 3 Liverpool 0
This was the score all United fans had wanted a comfortable win to evaporate the memories of 2013 and firmly put themselves in contention for a genuine title push.
But on reflection I cant help but feel United are still weak, often throughout this tense affair United wasted plentiful chances to move forward, frustrating football was the order of the day, constantly passing backwards and many a loose ball played from Young, Fellani and Evans would surely have been punished by Europe’s elite.

Finalists four years earlier, France where earmarked as one of the pre-tournament favourites in South Africa in 2010. Sadly, the optimism surrounding the squad took a traumatic turn for the worst with an upheaval that disgusted the entirety of a nation, with a strong footballing tradition.
Headlines throughout the world reported France’s refusal to train for 58 year old manager Raymond Domenech. An impending internal implosion was coming like a head on collision with a broken, and ill-disciplined squad.
The expulsion of Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka for launching a vicious tirade at …

New Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has already kick-started his Manchester United reign with 5 wins in an unbeaten US pre-season tour, which concluded with a 3-1 victory over rivals Liverpool to lift the International Champions Cup. The Dutchman, who led Holland to 3rd place in this year’s World Cup, has taken the same 3-5-2 system he used with the national team and implemented it at United, and the system has already proved to get United the results they want. United were phenomenal throughout pre-season, picking up victories over …

So, to the fourth in this series of 6 articles looking at the top 60 players in world football and probably the hardest list to select. In researching this list I realised our generation is blessed with a group of fantastic central midfielders and picking just 13 was very difficult. In fact, it proved too difficult and I had to choose 4 honourable mentions instead of just 3. I apologise and hope you will understand the difficulty. Thank you and please enjoy, comment, discuss, vent your outrage at my selections and read the …

Honourable mentions:

Fabio Coentrao – A frustrating year for the 26 year old former Benfica man, playing second fiddle to Marcelo for club and having a disappointing World Cup for country. However, he is still an intelligent player, who is technically skilful and tactically versatile. Young enough to still …

Colombia’s number 10, dubbed ‘El Nuevo Pibe’ (The New Kid), successor to Colombian legend Carlos Valderrama the original ‘El Pibe’, James Rodriguez is reportedly on the verge of a massive €80million move to Real Madrid that would make him the most expensive Colombian footballer of all time, surpassing the €60million current club AS Monaco paid for teammate Radamel Falcao last summer. The World Cup Golden Boot winner, and unofficial best player in the tournament, has the world at his prodigiously talented left foot. After his outstanding performances in leading Colombia …

With injuries and collisions occurring more often in the modern game, the issue of safety in football is being addressed in greater detail than just simply suggesting strapping on a pair of shin pads is all that’s required.
In particular, head injuries are a serious problem that are not being looked at in great enough detail. Whilst strapping a dressing over the wound was considered an effective treatment for earlier no-nonsense players like Terry Butcher, advances in science and in common sense generally has led to people taking such situations more …
