Brazil have picked a very strong team on paper and it would be hard to argue that they are heavy favourites to lift the World Cup on their own soil. The obvious choice for goalkeeper is Julio Cesar, who although plays in the MLS for Toronto, is hugely experienced, playing for Inter Milan for a number of years before moving to QPR in England. …

Whilst many leagues in Europe are just kicking off for the new season, the Russian League is already past it’s half way mark. Running from March to November to avoid the slight problem of the cold (at Siberian club FC Sibir Novosibirsk the average temperature in January is around -15°!), sixteen teams compete for the Russian Football Championship title.  The league offers good entry to European competitions, with  1st and 2nd place qualifying for the Champions’ league group stage, 3rd place qualifying for the 2nd qualifying round, and fourth and …

Gritty French defender could be on his way out of Zenit just a few months after joining them, as English club Bolton have reportedly had a bid for the player accepted.
The hard hitting 26 year old joined Zenit from AS Nancy in a surprise move last Summer, yet has found the Russian league difficult and has struggled for match fitness. The Super Cup winner has already voiced his disappointment at not attracting the national team coaches eye whilst playing in Russia and could see a move to England as the …

Just a few months after stating his intention to become a Tottenham Hotspur player, Russian forward Andrei Arshavin looks set to join the English team’s bitter rivals, none other then Arsenal FC.
The want-a-way attacker has long been linked with a move out of Zenit and has attracted the attention of a number of high profile European clubs since Euro 2008 (Barca, Chelsea and Manchester United were all apparently keen on the player). However Zenit have hung onto their prize asset, largely due to the fact that they are refusing to …

After losing one of the most important matches during the season, Juve now must try and gain back their form when they play European Super Cup winners Zenit. As Juventus are already qualified, Ranieri could opt to field in some youngsters to give them some taste of European matches. Juve are ahead of Real Madrid by four points. Meanwhile Zenit are just two points far off from Real and thus will be doing their utmost to swoop into second place if Belarussian side BATE continue with their strong performances at …

Zenit St Petersburg have been left reeling in anger as the Spanish media accused them of match fixing.

Spanish newspapers El Pais and ABC have reported on a story involving a Russian crinimal gang paying out bribes to the clubs UEFA Cup opponents last year. The spanish papers have stated that they have evidence prooving the fact that Zenit payed large sums of money to their semi-final opponents Bayern Munich last year. Zenit have said that the allegations are completely untrue and that they are preparing to sue both El Pais …

Juventus favourite Alessando Del Piero single handedly ensured that Zenit now face an uphill struggle to progress from the Champions League group stage.
The veteran striker fired home a second half winner that broke the deadlock and won the 3 points for Juventus. The game had been a skillful, exciting contest with both sides having chances.
Zenit started the better with their Portugese winger Danny narrowly shooting wide. Many felt the winger could have done better from 12 yards out.

David Trezeguet then had the first real chance for the Italian giants. Alas, …

OK, so you might be wondering why a die-hard Tottenham fan from England has decided to write about a team from Russia who, before last year, were unknown to just about every football fan in this country. It’s a fair question really as, no, I’m not from Russia, no, I’ve never been to Russia and, no, I don’t even like Vodka. So why have I started a blog for the Russian champions? Well, read on………………………………………..
(Official) Kings of Europe
Yes, thats right, Zenit are, officialy, the best team in Europe after defeating English and …

Right so, simple question first, just who the hell are FC Zenit Saint Petersbeg? In this, the first ever Zenit post, I’ll give you a bit of the club history, some info on the current squad and a list of all their achievements.

History
Zenit’s club history is a little complicated. A lot of people argue about just when the club was created; some say 1914, others 1925. Most say 1925 but this is a little unclear due to the fact so many early Russian football clubs kept changing their names. We do …
