The Stars of Austria….

The Co Hosts, but many have written them off already, we look at some of their more well known players who will have to perform if Austria are to succeed……

1 Alex Manninger – ex Arsenal, was merely a back up[ but im sure endered himself to a number of Gunners fans. Had a stint in Italy for Fiorentina, and now plys his trade at Siena. Will be one of the busiest keepers in the group stages and will have to be at his best to see the co hosts get out of their group. Shot stopping is his strength.

4 Emanuel Pogatetz – The likely skipper of the side, indifferent past with the Austrian nationals, spent some time out of the squad doue to a disagreement with the management. A regular at Premiership side Middlesborough, has provided some sterdy performances. A danger at set pieces but only 1 goal in 25 international caps.

10 Andreas Ivanschitz – The star man, on loan from Salzburg to Panathinaikos this season, has hit 9 goals and is the creative spark to the side. Has 5 international goals to his name and the hopeful Austirans will look to him when it comes to set pieces, a trusty left peg.

17 Martin Hiden – Dedicated Leeds fans may recall Martin Hiden, as he set the record of being the 1st outfield player to play in the Premier League when he signed to Elland Road. Now the captain of Rapid Vienna, a solid centre half who could form the shield with Pogatetz in front of Manninger.

21 Jürgen Macho – Sunderland and Chelsea goalkeeper, spent his early years in the Premier League, unlikely to see much action, unless Manninger is unavailable.
