Times Up For Chelsea’s Terrible Torres
101 games for Chelsea and only 28 goals. 1.78 million per goal. A goal every 324.6 minutes. That’s a goal every 3.6 games.
With stats like these we all know Torres has been a failure at Chelsea. However it looked like his career had brightened up when he scored twice against FC Nordsjaelland, two more three days later at the stadium of light, one at Elland Road and then a sensational header against Villa. He was on 6 in 4 games and many predicted that he was back to his best and Chelsea could be a serious force with him. However since then he has failed to score again in six games. This includes not helping Chelsea in a 1-0 loss to bottom club QPR and a 2-0 loss and probable league cup semi final exit to Swansea.
As a Chelsea fan I have had enough. Never can you rely on him to score a goal. Someone bought for £50 million shows less promise than new signing Demba Ba who in 5 minutes showed more promise than Torres in 4 games, we should also take note of the fact that you can get a quality striker for far less than £50 million. Michu who is been unplayable at Swansea with an amazing 16 goals in 24 games and Van Persie who is going to singlehandedly win United the title and who’s exclusion from the FIFA World XI should be called Persie-gate.
I have seen so much patience from any set of fans for a player that is failing so much than Torres constantly chanting his name and cheering him whenever he touches the ball. However when ever a good striker comes on your should be sure they will score. When United were 2-1 at West Ham Fergie brought on Van Persie and you just knew he would score and he did. Even when Drogba came on for Chelsea you knew you had a chance to score. However when Torres come on for Chelsea you just know he will not score.
Another important attribute of a good striker is that they score in the 1-0 big games, they score goals that define a season. Van Persie scores last minute in the Manchester Derby, Drogba scores in the Champions League final with three minutes to go, Suarez scores a stunner against Newcastle to get a draw and Messi scores more than Casanova. Torres has only one really big goal for Chelsea against Barcelona in the CL semi-finals, a goal that if it had not gone in Chelsea still would have gone through on away goals.
Torres has even less excuse to score with some of the most gifted playmakers behind him. If you cannot score with Oscar, Hazard or Mata behind you then you are really behind Premier League pace. Demba Ba proved that with 2 goals against Southampton by just finishing easy moves with good set ups – but goals Torres would not have scored or not got into the position to score.
The biggest joke about all of this is a player who has scored 194 goals for Chelsea and is the 5 highest premier league goal scorer of all time is not being given a new contract and that of course is Lampard. A player who shockingly is called worse than Steven Gerrard despite more goals and more assist in less club appearances than the Liverpool legend.
Get Torres out and sign Lampard up.
