Today saw my beloved Shrewsbury, who are in spectacular form and sitting pretty in that holy grail that is 6th place in league 2, in action at a lowly Grimsby Town side who currently occupy the 23rd place in the league and look destined for the drop to the Conference along with Darlington (who beat the Shrews earlier in the season).
Grimsby had failed to register a victory in their last 25 league outings whilst the Shrews were top of the form book. What could possibly go wrong?
That was the question being asked by many a Shrew at 3pm in the afternoon, including the 300 or so who had made the 200 odd mile trip to the sunny seaside fishing port resort of Grimsby. How would that do a marketing campaign for Grimsby tourism?
Shrewsbury started brightly enough but Grimsby got a very soft penalty on the stroke of half time (the 3rd time in as many away game that had happened to Shrewsbury) and duely converted to send the 3000 Grimsby fans delirious. Shrewsbury capitulated in the second half an ended up losing 3-0.
Failing to convert those early chance really came back to haunt Shrewsbury in the end but hey onwards on upwards and we have league leader Rochdale at home on Saturday, what could possibly go wrong?
