The current Premier League season has been fascinating to watch with a number of young players making their breakthrough. Chelsea have undoubtedly been the standout side in this regard with the likes of Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Billy Gilmour and Reece James making their league debuts but there are players from other sides, who are awaiting their opportunity to make a mark on the proceedings. We look into a couple of young players, who could play a more defining role after the second international break of the season.
Gabriel Martinelli – Arsenal: The youngster has started his Gunners career with a bang and he has scored four goals from just two starts for the club. The Brazilian teenager has excelled with his positioning and strong headed capabilities and he could be afforded with more minutes in the league on the back of his Cup performances. The presence of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe hampers his prospects of making the starting XI in the Premier League but his recent displays indicate that he could prove a quality option off the bench, suppose one of the attacking trident fail to impress. Bukayo Saka has been the one, who has benefited from Lacazette’s recent injury setback but he will likewise drop to the bench with the Frenchman due to make his comeback after the break.
Brandon Williams – Manchester United: Similarly to Martinelli, Williams is at the beginning of his professional career and he has made just a couple of appearances in the League Cup and Europa League. He earned his maiden start for the Red Devils in the goalless Europa League draw at AZ Alkmaar but there were plenty of good things to watch from the performance where he showed the intent to attack from the left side of the backline. He was let down by his composure in the final third but overall, he showed good traits which should hold him good for the future. With Luke Shaw still nursing a hamstring injury, Williams has the chance to make the push for his Premier League debut after the break, particularly with Ashley Young struggling for form during the opening months of the season.
