Patrick Vieira hurt his left ankle last Friday and is very likely to miss France’s opening match against underdogs Romania on Monday 9th. As a result, Mathieu Flamini has been called up as a precautionary measure, but a decision whether Vieira will play in Euro 2008 will be made before the 8th June. Flamini has just changed clubs, joining Milan from Arsenal on the 1st July, and he was part of the 30-man squad but absent from the 23-man squad. His part in the French push for success will be determined after the full extent of Vieira’s injury is analysed.
“Flamini is arriving today at Clairefontaine (France’s training camp) and is added to the 23-man squad” – Yann Le Guillard: team spokesperson
