Deadline day shenanigans

The dreaded deadline day approaches again and for every Derby fan your mind remembers the sales of Huddlestone and Rasiak at 2 minutes to midnight over the past few years and I know that inside you’re praying that doesn’t happen again this year (I am too). The only real targets that could potentially leave are Hulse and Commons, but there is an air of confidence around Nigel Clough and Adam Pearson that says we don’t have to sell so unless someone is prepared to pay stupid money both will be with us until at least January. There probably will be departures from Pride Park before Tuesday night but these players will probably be those deemed “surplus to requirements” by the manager (Jordan Stewart and Martin Albrechtsen immediately spring to mind) but in truth the club can survive and probably will survive better without them. The departure of Roy Carroll and Clod Davis will be a huge relief to the wage bill of the club (even if we have paid up their contracts just to get rid of them).

All the transfer action will happen outside of Derby County, but will there be any big money signings like Robinho of last year? Well Man City have said that they aren’t going to spend any more money (and that is apparently for the next 5 years but that seems to be highly unlikely), Alex Ferguson has said that he won’t be signing any more players so who are the team most likely to dip into the transfer market? Well as Everton have just received £24 million they have to be the prime candidates, and defence should be their prioirity – maybe they’ll buy Jordan Stewart for £20million? They’ll definitely be disappointed they missed out on big Claude and his all in one bodysuit!
