FIFA won’t take Real Madrid action

The statement issued by FIFA regarding the complaint said:

“We can confirm that we received last week a formal complaint from Manchester United related to the player Cristiano Ronaldo and the club Real Madrid. From the documentation received, no breach of contract appears to have occurred yet.

“Therefore, in accordance with the applicable practice, no kind of formal procedure has been opened by FIFA regarding this matter.

“The Spanish Football Federation has been informed of the complaint lodged by the English club and been asked to remind its member club Real Madrid about the potential legal consequences of a breach of contract without just cause during the protected period and of a possible inducement to such a breach of contract, as established by the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.”

Man Utd insist that they will not be selling Ronaldo this summer, and Ferguson reportedly threatened the board that he will walk out if they sell Ronaldo without his approval. Reports persistently issued by the Spanish press, with Marca being the main newspaper, are putting price tags on Ronaldo. Some state that Real will be making an initial bid of £40 million plus Robinho and others are saying £75 million in cash. Other reports are now stating that Man Utd want Wesley Sneijder and Sergio Ramos plus cash in return. Real Madrid do not want to sell the Dutch & Spanish stars, but it seems they have to do so to acquire Ronaldo’s signature. However, Sir Alex insists that Cristiano will be at United until the end of the contract that he signed last year.

FIFA has warned the Spanish FA to monitor Real Madrid’s conduct as the Ronaldo saga rumbles on. FIFA sent a warning to Real informing them of the consequences of breaching Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, but stated that until now, no rule has been broken and thus no action will be taken.
