Vladimir Weiss has been included in the Rangers squad for the trip to Easter Road on Sunday. The Slovakian joined on Thursday from Manchester City on a season-long loan and Walter Smith has indicated he will feature against Hibernian. Nikica Jelavic’s transfer will not go through in time as a work-permit has still to be obtained but he should be ready for a home debut against St Johnstone next Saturday.
Another major boost for Rangers is that Steven Davis will return to the squad after being ruled out of last weekend’s opener with a virus. Davis will likely partner Maurice Edu in the centre of midfield with Lee McCulloch still suspended.
The SPL champions will be the first side to play at the new-look Easter Road as the Hibees open their new East Stand which will increase the capacity at Easter Road to just over 20,000, making it the fourth largest stadium in the league. Manager Walter Smith told the official Rangers website: “Hibs have to be congratulated for, during this period of financial constraint, being able to improve their stadium. “So I am really looking forward to the game on Sunday and I am sure there will be a great atmosphere in the ground.”
On the pitch, Hibs will be without Ian Murray who is still serving a suspension and they will be likely to start with the same eleven which beat Motherwell 3-2 last weekend. Rangers’ trips to Easter Road always provide entertaining matches with the Gers winning 4-2 and 1-0 in the encounters last season.
