There are still two months left until the transfer window opens again, but the press has already been mentioning several players that United may decide to purchase in January. Fuel to the fire was added when reports of a £50 million summer transfer kitty and reports regarding Rooney’s demands to attract world class talent to the club appeared in the press. Ferguson has been linked with tens of players in which he reportedly holds an interest. Ironically, history proves that Ferguson has a tendency to move for players that are not linked to the club in the press. While everyone was talking about the prospect of Luis Nani joining the club, Ferguson captured Anderson’s signature as well. No one expected United to buy Javier Hernandez this summer, but the scouting network of United secured a great victory for the club, buying a player for £7 million before the World Cup and then having his value double or even triple after a successful World Cup campaign and a fantastic start to life at Old Trafford. No one had ever heard of Bebe before, but the young Portuguese arrived to the club and scored his first goal against Wolves. Will it be the same story again?
Well, we will still report transfer speculation as even though it may never materialise, it is still great to read and imagine about. We will have a look at two players which have been linked with the club recently. These are Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ganso. Schweinsteiger, currently a Bayern Munich player, has been linked to the club before. His contract expires in 2012 and should he fail to renew his contract by January, that would be an indication that he does not intend to renew it, therefore having his value drop significantly to the detriment of the club, which would prefer to sell him for a higher price in January. Also in the frame for the player are two clubs that are also reportedly interested in Ganso: Chelsea and Manchester City.
Ganso is a 21-year old Santos wonderkid, wearing the number 10 at the club. He is considered one of the hottest prospects in football. When United sold Rodrigo Possebon to Santos, it was reported that Ferguson tried to secure a deal for the youngster. Indications show that Manchester United are still interested, and considering Ferguson’s preference to nurture talent than buying ready-made stars, Ganso would fit the bill perfectly. A new development that put the club on red alert is Ganso’s rejectance of a new contract at santos, and the branding of the contract offered as ‘unacceptable’. It seems that the destination for Ganso is Europe. But will it be Manchester United that acquires this wonderkid?
