Manchester United left it late to make the most of the summer transfer window after making five new signings on deadline day.
United, who have been quite inactive in the window aside from the addition of Donny van de Beek from Ajax, brought in Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani and Alex Telles to strengthen the squad in the wake of their inconsistencies.
According to Evening Standard, Cavani signed a one-year deal with the option to extend for a further year. Following his release from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, the Uruguayan moved to Old Trafford on a free transfer.
Cavani said on the club official website: “Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I’ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.”
From the report, United are understood to have also agreed a fee for £13.5million plus £1.8million in potential add-ons with Porto for left-back Telles.
Telles told his new club’s website: “To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour.
“You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.”
Also on the night, United reached an agreement to sign Atalanta winger Amad Diallo. However, the 18-year-old will only join the Premier League side in January subject to a medical, personal terms and a work permit.
United announced their fourth signing on the night, by welcoming centre-back Willy Kambwala from Sochaux. The young defender will join the Under-18 squad, while Chris Smalling has also completed a permanent switch to Roma.
It is understood from reports that the Italian FA processed the paperwork only a minute before the country’s transfer deadline.
Manchester United bowed out of the transfer window with the signing of talented winger Facundo Pellistri from Peñarol who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed to “be a real talent for the long term”.
The 18-year-old was the Red Devils’ fifth signing of the day.
Pellistri told the club’s website: “To join a club with the history of Manchester United is a dream come true. I have learnt a lot at Penarol and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me. To have the confidence of the manager is an amazing feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.
“I am coming into a squad full of great players who I will learn from every day. Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that gives young players an opportunity and I am ready to work hard every day to earn those chances and prove myself in England.”
