Derby County

Who’s been a naughty boy then?!

Its fair to say that if you do something wrong and Nigel Clough doesnt like it hes not going to let you get away with it.. Kris Commons is the latest player to find this out, Commons was involved in the second and third goals that Forest scored against Derby on Saturday and he’s felt the full force of Nigel’s rage. Commons gave away the free kick from which Forest scored their second goal and he lost the ball which led to their third.

I doubt Commons will have been smiling on Saturday at half time

The quotes on Teamtalk.com from Clough were stinging, he said:

“He gave the second and third goals away, but it wasn’t just that. Everybody gives the ball away, it is the manner in which you do it,”

“He tried to nutmeg somebody in his own half, away from home, in the 44th minute when we were 2-0 down, and then having lost the ball, he just stood still and watched it.”

“Now everything we are trying to instil into the club from the under-9s up to the senior team is about team ethic and team work. That’s why we replaced him at half-time.”

“He kept wandering in midfield and so we replaced him with somebody who would play the position and we looked better for it.”

Well thats Commons told, quite a refreshing approach and even more so when its about the clubs best player. This obviously set tongues wagging about a potential move away from the club but happily that was only a rumour. Theres no doubt that Commons is a talented footballer and when he is in the team he makes Derby play but Clough is quite right to give him no special treatment. No player is bigger than the club and someone who continually lets the team down should be substituted/dropped to make them realise its not all about them.

Don't mess with this man

The only question is why do other players continue to make the starting XI when they make mistakes? If Clough isnt careful there may be people accusing him of having favourites within the club, and that wouldnt be good for squad morale.
