The 74 Chelsea charges for alleged breaches of FA regulations have raised the possibility of a points deduction.
The charges centre on rules regarding the payment of agents, the role of intermediaries, and third-party investment in players.
According to the FA, the conduct in question spans from 2009 to 2022, with most cases relating to the 2010/11 to 2015/16 seasons.
Chelsea now have until 19 September 2025 to formally respond to the charges.
FA Statement on Chelsea Charges
The FA confirmed the details in a statement, citing breaches of several regulations:
“The Football Association has today charged Chelsea FC with breaches of Regulations J1 and C2 of The FA Football Agents Regulations, Regulations A2 and A3 of The FA Regulations on Working with Intermediaries, and Regulations A1 and B3 of The FA Third Party Investment in Players Regulations.
“In total, 74 charges have been brought against Chelsea FC.
“The conduct that is the subject of the charges ranges from 2009 to 2022 and primarily relates to events which occurred between the 2010/11 to 2015/16 playing seasons. Chelsea FC has until 19 September 2025 to respond.”
The breadth of these charges means Chelsea could face one of the most serious disciplinary actions in Premier League history if wrongdoing is proven.

When Are The Chelsea Breaches From?
Most of the conduct under investigation took place during Roman Abramovich’s ownership, which began in 2003.
Under Abramovich, Chelsea won five Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.
However, Abramovich was forced to sell the club in 2022 after sanctions by the UK government following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
His era at Stamford Bridge is now under a cloud, with the FA alleging major financial irregularities tied to transfer dealings.
Chelsea’s Response to the FA Charges
Chelsea have not issued a fresh public statement since the charges were announced but previously acknowledged these issues in 2023.
At the time, the club stressed that the allegations pre-dated current ownership under the Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly consortium.
In November 2023, Chelsea explained that the new ownership group discovered incomplete financial reporting during their due diligence checks.
They claimed to have self-reported the matters to regulators and pledged to continue cooperating.
“Immediately following the completion of the purchase, the club proactively self-reported these matters to all applicable football regulators,” Chelsea’s statement read. “We will continue to assist with investigations.”
Could Chelsea Face a Points Deduction?
While the FA has not yet confirmed potential sanctions, a points deduction is considered one of the possible punishments.
Financial penalties, transfer restrictions or other disciplinary measures could also follow.
Stay tuned for updates on the investigation, as the outcome of these Chelsea charges will be closely watched.
