Alexander Isak may have cost Liverpool and arm and a leg, but the striker has had a bum season so far.
The striker was at the centre of a long running summer transfer saga with Newcastle United as he forced his move to Anfield for £125million.
The forward was accused of bad behaviour which left the Magpies little option but to sell after Isak issued a statement claiming the club had broken promises over his next move.
The deal would eventually go through close to deadline day but the Swedish international has barely kicked a ball for Liverpool so far with just one goal from six outings which came in the Carabao Cup.
That was against lower league opposition in EFL Championship side Southampton, and his international exploits have not gone much better for Sweden, either.
They sit rock bottom of their World Cup qualifying group following a dismal 1-0 defeat at home to Kosovo thanks to a strike from Fisnik Asllani.
Alexander Isak form has Liverpool fans nervous
Isak played the full 90 minutes at Gothenburg’s Ullevi but he struggled and some fans have questioned his fitness levels as well as his mindset following the summer window.
The 25-year-old’s performance was criticised with his lack of chances honed in on.
One Reds fan took to social media and said: “I am seriously starting to get worried about this guy,” as another added: “Isak needs to start scoring and soon.”
One moaned: “What has happened to him at all, he can’t keep blaming fitness as an excuse.”
Another commented: “He has had two months of football now he should be up to speed now.”
One supporter said: “Isak is really low on confidence right now. He needs some goals to bring that confidence back.
What fans said about Isak for Sweden vs Kosovo
“Missing three months without any football was really bad from him in the off season. He needs to put in extra work and bounce back well.”
A sixth wrote on their social media: “What’s wrong with Isak…”
Isak will have to rapidly improve this season – despite an early run with the Reds second in the Premier League – if he is to avoid similar questions in his club crest.
Arne Slot has a task on his hands in pushing his frontman back to form but beginning on Sunday at home to Manchester United would be the ideal time.
Isak will lead the line, more than likely alongside fellow attacker Hugo Ekitike returning from suspension following his second yellow card for taking his jersey off against Saints.
