Why Barcelona should sign Marcus Rashford permanently from Man United

Barcelona can make Marcus Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United a permanent one in the summer – and there’s several reasons why they should.

The England international is currently on loan at the Nou Camp until the end of the season, with a £26million obligation-to-buy option in the agreement Barca choose to proceed.

We have decided to taken a look at three reasons why Barcelona should secure Rashford’s pending signature on the dotted line.

Could Marcus Rashford’s versatility be the key to securing a permanent Barcelona move?

Rashford’s adaptability to play across the whole of the front line certainly makes him an astute addition at the Nou Camp if everything goes to plan.

Able to operate on either wing, a secondary supporting striker or even an attacking midfielder, the England man has provided attacking returns across nearly all of those positions this season.

He hasn’t yet played as a second striker, but has contributed three goals and an assist as a centre forward, three goals and nine assists from the left-hand side, and one goal and an assist as a right winger. He has also participated across a number of positions for his national side, which has resulted in him being capped 68 times and scoring 18 goals.

With the World Cup taking place across Canada, Mexico and the United States this year, surely Rashford is in England manager Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Rashford’s short-term rediscovery in form could be Barcelona’s long-term answer

Marcus Rashford has already contributed 18 goals (seven goals and 11 assists) across all competitions since his move to Manchester in July 2025, compared to only 11 goals and nine assists throughout the entirety of last season.

As we’re only still halfway through the current campaign, there is a very high probability that the England man will easily surpass those 20 contributions if he keeps up his current run of form.

Going back even further, the 2023/24 campaign saw eight goals and six assists celebrated at the Theatre of Dreams, but that seems to have sadly turned into a reported close-to-ending nightmare.

Rashford has become one of manager Hansi Flick’s first names on his starting team sheet after participating in 18 of Barcelona’s LaLiga matches this season. And, in addition to playing in all six of their 2025/26 Champions League phase games.

It would be a big surprise if one of the biggest heavyweights in the Spanish football ring didn’t exercise its right to turn Rashford’s temporary deal into a permanent one. Especially considering he is out of contract with his current employers in the summer.

There is no doubt that Rashford’s current form has helped the defending LaLiga champions sit four points clear at the summit of the Spanish top-flight.

Barcelona can avoid any competition in the summer

With Rashford on course to become a free agent in the summer, and with United looking unlikely to offer him a new deal, Barcelona surely will want to avoid a potential headache.

If Barca decide not to sign him, with their loan agreement allowing first refusal to bring him to the permanent scintillating Spanish sun, they might face a problem.

With the Nou Camp’s upper echelons reported to have had their heads turned by Rashford’s stand-out performances and attitude on and off the pitch, it appears a move is on the cards.

His turnaround seems a distant memory following previous punctuality issues, which reared their head again after being left out of Barca’s starting XI against Getafe in September for arriving to training late.

With Michael Carrick the overwhelming bookies’ favourite to take over the managerial reins at Old Trafford from Ruben Amorim, the former United player might want to keep hold of Rashford.
