Can the potential addition of Jack Harrison save Fiorentina from relegation?

The current Serie A campaign has been nothing short of disastrous for Fiorentina, with reinforcements now needed, potentially in Jack Harrison, to avoid relegation.

Before the beginning of the current campaign, if you had told someone that Paolo Vanoli’s side was currently languishing in the relegation zone, they would have said you were speaking rubbish.

However, that is actually the case with Fiorentina, four points adrift of safety after winning only one of their 20 matches this season.

At Footballblog.com, we’ve looked at whether Harrison’s rumoured move from Leeds can stop Fiorentina from playing their football in Serie B for the first time in over two decades.

Jack Harrison could help kickstart Fiorentina’s stuttering season

Given Fiorentina have scored just 21 league goals this season, an average of just over one goal per game, the need for more firepower in attack is needed – and Harrison could be the man to provide more goals.

Despite failing to find the back of the net in 13 matches across all competitions this season, Harrison still has the proven potential to fire his potential new temporary employer to safety.

Taking a look back at the 2020/21 and 2021/22 Premier League campaigns, the attacking midfielder scored eight goals apiece in each of those respective seasons. That wasn’t the only celebration that the England Under 21s international had in front of goal, with eight assists also recorded in the former.

Harrison’s momentum wasn’t finished either as he contributed 12 attacking returns, five goals and seven assists in 2022/23. However, it wasn’t enough to save Leeds United from relegation and a season-long loan move to Everton duly followed.

However, things might not have been the same in front of goal since leaving Leeds, but that previous constant run of form should convince Fiorentina or any potential suitors to risk a short-term move.

Harrison is out-of-favour under Daniel Farke

There is certainly a debate to have that Harrison hasn’t been given the maximum number of opportunities after only participating in 11 of Leeds’ Premier League matches in 2025/26. He has been an unused substitute for nine matches and has only started one game in the defeat at Burnley in mid-October.

His request for regular playing time has been rejected by manager Daniel Farke, with Brenden Aaronson, James Justin and Noah Okafor ahead of Harrison in Leeds’ attacking pecking order.

Harrison might not be the only attacking addition in January, with Tottenham winger Manor Solomon having already completed his loan move to Fiorentina until the end of the season.

A potential combination of Harrison and Solomon could certainly provide the goals and assists that the Serie A outfit are so desperately in need off.

Not the first time that Harrison has played abroad

If a move to Fiorentina does materialise, it will not be the first time that the England Youth international has played outside of England.

Harrison had a spell in Major League Soccer with New York City between March 2016 and October 2017, which saw him score 14 goals and provide 10 assists across 61 appearances.

Despite missing the opening 11 matches due to a hip injury, he certainly became a fans’ favourite with his attacking performances, which surely would have raised bums off seats.

With all of the signs pointing to a switch to Italy, Harrison could be the answer to Fiorentina’s pending problem of avoiding playing in Serie B next season.
