Swansea City are pushing hard to sign Adam Idah from Celtic this summer.
Football Blog understands Idah is wanted by the Swans as they push to add firepower to their ranks where they already boast the likes of Liam Cullen and Zan Vipotnik within their squad.
Idah has started the season with Celtic slowly and is yet to open his scoring account for the Scottish Premiership champions.
It is understood that the 24-year-old is wanted at the Swansea Stadium but that the interest came out of the blue for Celts who were planning to look ahead for the campaign with Idah as their main striker.
Neither player nor club were expecting any sort of transfer offer in the last few days of the summer window but the movement from Swans has come fast as boss Alan Sheehan wants reinforcements up top.
Idah cost Celtic £9.5million this year following a successful loan stint at Parkhead last season where he notched 29 goals in 72 appearances in all competitions.
Swansea City make transfer offer for Celtic striker Adam Idah
His winning goal in the Scottish Cup Final vs rivals Rangers is widely considered his best moment in green and white but this term has been stop-start.
Celtic are now also out of the Champions League following their abysmal performance and result away to Kairat Almaty, with the minnows knocking out the massive bookies favourites on penalties.
The two legs brought no goals.
Idah formerly plied his trade for Norwich City where he made 116 appearances, but he scored only 17 times at Carrow Road. His loan in Glasgow certainly played a part in getting him his big money move.
Swansea City also have ex-Celtic defender and loans officer Darren O’Dea in at the club now as their assistant head coach and the Irishman knows his countryman well.
It is not known how big a part O’Dea has had in recruitment at Swansea but it is almost certain he had a positive opinion on the attacker to push for a move.
Idah’s stats leave a lot to be desired
Celtic, meanwhile, will surely look to recoup most of the cash they spent on the player when he signed on a permanent deal.
And with just a few short days left of the transfer market being open, the Hoops would then have to move quickly to replace him.
Celts have not done their business early this campaign at all and that has triggered anger from the support. Their most recent permanent transfer in the door was Shin Yamada back in July.
Brendan Rodgers wants two wingers in as well as a left-back and looks to have landed at least one wide player and his defender in Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Marcelo Saracchi.
And now it will be two strikers on the wanted list, also, if Rodgers is to get anywhere near the window he wanted at the start.
