Barcelona Add Bournemouth Star to Summer Transfer Shortlist

Barcelona Coach Hansi Flick

Barcelona have reportedly included Bournemouth star Marcos Senesi in their three-man transfer shortlist for the summer transfer window.

Senesi sees his contract expire in June 2026, making him a lucrative option for cash-strapped Barcelona.

However, signing Senesi may not be a straightforward affair for the Blaugrana. Serie A giants Juventus are also believed to be interested in the 28-year-old.

Barcelona Plotting Summer Move for Bournemouth’s Senesi

After losing Andreas Christensen to a long-term knee injury, Barcelona have been forced to act in the January transfer window.

Joao Cancelo is returning to Barcelona, having turned down a move to Italy. He has also agreed to take a pay cut to seal the move.

The Portuguese defender is expected to continue at the club beyond the 2025/26 season. However, the Blaugrana are reportedly not content with the defensive cover they have and are preparing to reinforce again in the summer window.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, they have identified Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi as their top defensive target. Coach Hansi Flick has been pushing for the move, as he believes Senesi’s profile is perfect for the club.

In addition to his lucrative free-agent status, Barca greatly admire Senesi’s technical ability. The Barcelona hierarchy is confident that signing Senesi would add strength and composure, while boosting the team’s ability to build from the back.

Before the development in the Cancelo saga, Barca reportedly studied the option of signing Senesi. The Cherries were quick to turn them down, as they did not want to lose a key player mid-season.

Juventus are set to challenge Barcelona for Senesi’s signature, but the player is reportedly more enthusiastic about joining the Catalan club.

Goretzka and Vlahovic Also on Barca’s Shortlist

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka and Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic are also on Barcelona’s shortlist. Like Senesi, both Goretzka and Vlahovic will become free agents in June 2026. Neither player is expected to sign a new contract with their current clubs.

Goretzka played under Flick at Bayern Munich, delivering some of the most memorable performances of his career. He is reportedly looking forward to reuniting with the German tactician. Barcelona value his physicality, attacking intuition, and experience at the highest level.

Vlahovic, meanwhile, is seen as Robert Lewandowski’s potential successor. Lewandowski sees his contract expire in June and is expected to look for a new challenge.

Of course, Vlahovic is nowhere close to Lewandowski in terms of efficiency in front of goal. But Flick and Co. believe they can get the best out of the 25-year-old.

Barcelona has also been linked with Lautaro Martinez, but they will have to fork out a sizable fee to sign the Argentine.
