Barcelona Receive Injury Boost Ahead of Decisive Champions League Clash With Copenhagen

Hansi Flick sack Barcelona

LaLiga leaders Barcelona have received an injury boost ahead of their final UEFA Champions League league-phase match against Copenhagen.

Ferran Torres, who was initially ruled out for the game, is reportedly pushing hard to make the squad for the game on Wednesday night.

Barcelona Receive Ferran Torres Injury Boost Ahead of Copenhagen Match

Barcelona secured a chaotic 4-2 victory over Slavia Prague in their previous Champions League outing. This allowed them to move to ninth place in the league-phase table. They are now level with PSG (6th), Newcastle United (7th), and Chelsea (8th) on 13 points, trailing them on goal difference.

Barcelona have scored five goals fewer than PSG and Newcastle, and one less than Chelsea. To directly qualify for the Champions League Round of 16, the Blaugrana must win and finish with a better goal difference than Chelsea.

Barca need all the firepower they can get against Copenhagen, and top scorer Ferran Torres’ (15 goals) potential involvement comes as a big boost.

According to Diario AS, Torres suffered a semimembranosus muscle injury in his right leg against Real Sociedad. The initial prognosis ruled him out for around 10 days, meaning he was not expected to come back before Thursday.

However, his recovery has been very successful, and there is a chance that he could be included in the squad.

The decision about Torres will be made on Tuesday after more tests are carried out on the player. Barca coaching staff and club doctors want to see how he does in group training. If he feels up for the challenge, he will make the squad against Copenhagen.

On the other hand, if Barca are not 100% certain, they will not risk him in the Champions League. In that case, Torres’ return could come in the LaLiga meeting with Elche on Saturday.

Barcelona Team News Against Copenhagen

Barcelona will be without many first-team players for their Champions League clash on Wednesday night. Pedri is out for several games after suffering a hamstring injury in the 4-2 win over Slavia Prague.

Gavi and Andreas Christensen are nursing injuries and remain on the treatment table. Midfield general Frenkie de Jong is suspended after picking up his third yellow card in the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid transfer target Marc Casado could retain his spot in midfield, with Eric Garcia serving as his partner. Dani Olmo, however, could miss out, with Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez and Raphinha likely to sit behind frontman Robert Lewandowski.
