Celtic fans have postponed their protests ahead of coming fixtures after the club agreed to meet to discuss ongoing issues.
Hoops fans had planned a significant 29 minute silent protest from inside Parkhead during their side’s clash with SC Braga in this evening’s Europa League clash.
The significance of the number 29, the Celtic Fans Collective claims is it has been that many number of days since their club made any sort of meaningful comment regarding the punters’ anger.
That came after an open letter was signed by more than 420 fan clubs and organisations complaining about multiple issues including Celtic’s summer transfer window debacle.
The Hoops’ start to the Premiership season has also not been ideal.
Celts had been ready to partake in the silence this evening until the Collective confirmed last night that they had been invited to a meeting with their club on Monday October 6, to address several issues and discuss the ongoing concerns.
Celtic fans postpone protest after board meeting confirmed
That means the protest has been postponed indefinitely until the support can decide whether or not they are content with the answers they receive after Monday’s meet.
Manager Brendan Rodgers – who has had his own personal issues so far this term – had urged punters to kiss and make up with the club in an attempt to unify everyone to ensure maximum support – and hopefully points – from the Braga tie.
And the CFC issued their statement confirming they would wait.
They also explained why they feel it important to act in “good faith” ahead of the meeting.
And they made sure to thank fans for their involvement, without which would not have brought about the meeting.
Celtic Fans Collective statement in full on protest postponement
“This evening, Celtic fan organisations received an invitation from Celtic FC to attend a meeting with the club on Monday 6th October to discuss ongoing concerns about the running of the club,” they wrote.
“In conjunction with the Celtic Fans Collective, supporter organisations have accepted this invitation. Celtic FC’s representatives will include Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay.
“We welcome the club’s decision to meet and engage directly on the issues raised. However, we remain under no illusions about the scale of change still required at board level.
“As a result of this development, the planned continuation of the “3-match silence” has been postponed, in good faith, in the hope and expectation that supporters will now receive full and honest communication from the club.
“We thank every supporter who has stood behind this campaign and helped bring the Celtic board to the table. Without this unity, it would not have been possible. It highlights the strength and influence of a united Celtic support.
“The Celtic Fans Collective will continue its campaign irrespective of the outcome of this meeting, with the clear aim of securing meaningful, positive change for the betterment of Celtic Football Club and its supporters.”
