Celtic Fans Urge Club to Splash Cash on Ireland’s World Cup Hero

Celtic need a strong January transfer window and there is no escaping that fact.

The Hoops boardroom were lambasted by supporters following an abysmal summer effort which cost the club Champions League qualification.

Brendan Rodgers resigned from Celtic last month following a fallout with the hierarchy and the club are now on the lookout for a new permanent manager who can take them to the next level.

The next boss will also take control of the market in Glasgow as of January 1 with business surely already in the pipeline by the recruitment staff at Lennoxtown right now.

Two wingers and a defender must be on the agenda with Daizen Maeda looking to leave for Brentford or another interested club.

Cameron Carter-Vickers also faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines at centre-half so the team will need strengthened in that spot, too.

But it is through the middle and a striker Celtic really need to take themselves forward with freebie Kelechi Iheanacho out of action and only Johnny Kenny available albeit the Irishman has started well this year.

Celtic fans urge club to sign Troy Parrott

Well, one of Kenny’s international teammates have hit the headlines throughout the week of World Cup qualifiers having banged in five goals from two appearances to guarantee his nation a spot in the playoffs despite initially looking dead and buried before beating Portugal and then Hungary.

Troy Parrott was the man for the big occasions and the 23-year-old really put on a show with his goals to see the Irish through.

Currently plying his trade with AZ Alkmaar, Parrott has notched 13 club goals from 14 appearances and has 10 goals in total for his country.

This term for the Eredivisie outfit Parrott has shown Tottenham why they were wrong to sell him back in 2024.

He helped the club make it through to the Europa Conference League with seven goals from five qualifying matches and he has scored in massive domestic fixtures too.

So it is clear why there is a lot of interest in the striker’s future right now.

The Celtic and Republic of Ireland connection is a seriously strong one and the club already have the aforementioned Kenny as well as Liam Scales who played a massive part alongside Parrott in big goals in this international break.

Martin O’Neill is also a former Ireland boss and is the Celtic interim manager right now while the 73-year-old’s career as Hoops manager has been an incredible one.

The question would turn to affordability for Celts and Parrott as well as the player’s ultimate decision behind what might come in the next few years.

Parkhead has shown to be an excellent proving ground and stepping stone for heavyweight talents to make a name before moving to the Premier League with countless players making that decision.

Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Jeremie Frimpong, Kieran Tierney and others have left Glasgow for the biggest stage and performed admirably. Some are still considered to be the best in the world in their position.

Parrott could weigh that up whenever he is looking for an exit from Alkmaar with his current deal expiring in 2029.

Celtic’s most expensive transfer ever cost them £11m in Arne Engels and it is likely Parrott would cost more than that. So, again, affordability would be a roadblock.

But what are the fans saying to all of this? Indeed the Parrott to Celtic bandwagon was kicked off by punters on social media with some of a green and white persuasion urging their boardroom to splash the cash and try to sign the former Spurs frontman.

What Celtic fans are saying about Parrott

One posed: “Would you take Troy Parrott at Celtic?” to which the response was overwhelming.

Some sarcastically responded suggesting there was no chance the forward would make the move.

Others chose to give their honest take.

Most were in agreement that it would be a good move for both parties, with one claiming: “I mean, yes, but he’s well beyond our reach now unfortunately.

“That’s not just based on this international window, he’s been scoring regularly in Eredivisie for about 2.5 years, AZ will want top dollar.”

One commented: “No brainer.”

Another added: “Wolfsburg had a bid of £10m turned down in the summer. I’d imagine his value has at the very least doubled since then.”

One commented: “Of course I would he is a brilliant player,” as a fourth noted: “Great move if he gets it.”

Others were not so sure.

One said: “He is better than Celtic sorry,” as another wrote: “Let’s be honest. Most folks hadn’t even heard of him a week ago.”
