Chelsea Fans Defend Club After FA Charges And Turn Anger Towards The Governing Body

Chelsea fans react to FA charges by defending the club for self-reporting and criticising the FA for failing to spot breaches earlier.

In the wake of the 74 FA charges against Chelsea, supporters have rallied behind the club’s current ownership.

Many fans argue that Chelsea’s decision to self-report financial concerns shows transparency and integrity — qualities they feel should be recognised rather than punished.

“Seriously, massive respect to the current ownership for INSTANTLY self reporting as soon as they took over,” wrote one fan on social media. “This will give us *some* leeway when it comes to our potential punishment. The FA would have found out themselves, eventually.

Others echoed this view, saying that the Clearlake and Todd Boehly ownership cannot be held responsible for alleged wrongdoing during the Roman Abramovich era.

Chelsea Fans React To FA Charges

While defending the club, Chelsea fans have directed anger at the FA for not identifying the breaches at the time.

Supporters questioned how the governing body failed to spot issues dating back more than a decade.

Considering the FA went like 20 years without finding out about the breaches we did them a favour by self reporting. They better pay it back,” one comment read.

Another fan argued that the governing body was “embarrassed” by its own lack of oversight and was now trying to “make an example” of the club.

Fans Highlight Abramovich Connection

A recurring theme in fan reactions is that the alleged breaches belong firmly to the Abramovich years.

With the Russian oligarch forced to sell Chelsea in 2022 after UK government sanctions, some fans claim the new ownership group should not be punished for past actions.

“Why should Boehly’s Chelsea be punished for Abramovich’s Chelsea?” one supporter wrote.

Another wrote, “Genuinely, how can Chelsea be charged after they were sold! Why when the sale went through was all this not checked, the new owners bought the club in good faith!”

Debate Over Potential Points Deduction

The possibility of a points deduction has circulated since the news broke. Many Chelsea fans believe such a punishment would be unfair given the circumstances, particularly since the current board acted in good faith by reporting the concerns.

Some have also pointed out that clubs like Everton have already faced points deductions for financial breaches, raising questions about consistency in how the FA handles disciplinary measures.

However, new reports claim that Chelsea are not expecting a points deduction and are confident that they will receive no worse than a fine.
